I asked about traveller's check to the bank and was told that I need to pay about $1 for every $100. That means I have to buy the traveller check. Is that true?

When you buy traveller's check in China, you have to pay 0.75% commission to the bank. If you buy it in RMB with your visa and permit, the commission is 0.75%, if you buy it in cash (usd), the commission will be 1%-1.5%.

Generally, we buy traveller's check from AMERICAN EXPRESS. This is a credit company (largest credit company in world). Actually, it doesn't matter which check you have. The express is just very common in the states. More than 60% people use it. Anyway, when you buy check, ask your bank about the check.
