The reading passage and listening passage debate on whether salvage logging is benificial both to a damaged forest and to the economy or not. The reading passage outlines three different theories to explain that slvage logging has benifit to the forest and economy, which are contradicted by the listening material.

First of all, the reading passage holds that removing dead trees can make room for new trees at once, because it will take years for the dead trees to decompose. On the contrary, the listening passage refutes that cleaning up the damaged trees does not have benifit to the forest, because it can not enrich the soil of the forest and make the soil lack the nutrient. Apparently, this view is just opposite of the writer's.

Second, the reading passage argues that removing decaying wood helps minimize the dangers of insect infestation and contribute to the health of the forest, because the damaged forest is a suitable habitat for the spruce bark beetle. However, in the listening passage, it holds that removing rotting wood is a harmful to the forest, because the decaying wood is not only suitalbe for the beeltes, but also suitalbe for the birds and other harmless insect. In the long run, removing rotting woods will do harm to the health of the forest.That is, this point is right contrary to the reading.

Finally, the reading passage demonstrates that removing damaged trees can provide much wood and more opportunity to the local residence, while the listening passage states that removing damage trees has a tiny influence to the local economy, because the damaged wood can not last long and removing rotting trees can only provide temporary job opporunities.By this way, the lecture contradictes the reading passage.

Do you agree or disagree, the world is changing fast, people are less happy.

By the developing of economy and society, people tend to pursuing philosophy questions: Where is happiness? How to gain happiness? Are people happier than those in the old days? As for me, I definitely disagree with the statement that the world is chaging fast, people are less happy, because happiness bases on the insight of themselves, have no relationship with the changing of the world. In addition, only if the world changes faster, can people enjoy themselves by all kinds of channels.

First of all, only if the world change faster, can people enjoy much more happiness through different kinds of ways, because they can get more information from the Internet, they have sufficent finacial condition to do something they want to do, and they can communicate with other people(sharing?) who are sharing the same hobby. However, back to the old days, those things I concered above are beyond the imagination of the most of people in our country. Take my mother for example, she is a very diligent common famale, lives an ordinary life in a small town. In the past, except for dedicating herself to her children and grandchildren, she did not know how to gain happiness, so she felt lonely and unhappy because the town was changing slowly than the big cities, and she had little sence of happiness. Once, she went to Beijing and lived with me for a period, she felt the fast changing of the world immediately and found her own hobby, swimming and climbing the mountain. When she came back to the hometown, she persisted on her hobby and became happier than before.

In addition, to some sence, happiness have nothing with the changing of the world if people pursue it from their insight world, since the meaning of happiness can be embodied though sorts of style, except for the material standards. Maybe they can feel happy though chatting with friends or families, or they can taste happiness only due to a piece of cake, or they can experience happiness by reading a favorite book. This means, in spite of the changing is fast or slow, they can feel joyful wherever and whenever they are. According to the calculation of the psychologist, there are only 10 percent peolple who gain happiness related to the changing of the world, their mood and mentality might change on the basis of viberations of outside factors. On the opposite, there are 90 percent people can find harmony and happiness through the inside feeling and experience.

All in all, although according to the faster changing of the world, people may feel more pessure or less happy occasionally. As I have stated above, people can taste happiness though sorts of ways by the fast changing of the world, and the most important thing is that people can enjoy happiness to your own inside world, no matter that the outside world changes or not, even no matter the changing is slow or fast.

World change faster, people are less happy.

Some people argue as if it is a general truth that the world is changing fast, and people are less happy. But to be frank (honest), I can not agree with them. There are numerous reasons why I hold disagreement with them, and I would explore only a few primary ones here.

First of all, this argument ignores the basic fact that the more which the world is changing faster, the more will people enjoy happiness through different ways，because they can get more information from the Internet, and they have sufficient financial condition to do something they want to do, and they can communicate with other people(sharing?) who are sharing the same hobby. However, if the world did not change anymore, those things I referred to above are beyond the imagination of the most of people in our country. All in all, although a faction of people may feel more pressure or less happy occasionally because of the faster changing of the world, most of people can enjoy happiness through their own channels just due to the fast changing of the world. As I have stated above, the most important thing is that people can taste happiness in their own spiritual world, no matter whether the outside world changes or not, even do not care about the changing of the world is fast or slow..

The reading passage and listening passage debate on which is the main factor that cause the declining of sea otter, the pollution hypothesis or the attacking by predators. The reading passage outlines three different aspacts to support it opinion that the reason comes from pollution, which are contradicted by the listening passage, the professor support the opinion that predator is the main cause.

First of all, the reading passage holds that it is beacuse the oil rag and other industrial pollution along the Alaskan coast leaded to the death of sea otters. On the contraray, the listening passage claims that it is hardly for people to find dead sea otter along the Alaskan coast, becuase pollution is not the main reason. May be it is due to the predators that cause the sea otter directly. Apparently, this view is just the opposite of the writer's.

Second, the writer argues that pollution affects the entire ecosysterm rather than a single species, because other sea mammals such as seal and sea lions are also decilining. However, in the listening passage, the professor holds that it is not beacase of the pollution, but owing to the hunting of human being cause the sea otter decreasing, so, some sea mammals had to change diet. That is the main reason cause the declining of sea lions and seals. That is, this point is right contrary to the reading.

Finally, the writer demostrates that the uneven pattern of otter decline indicates that the pollution is the crucial reason, while in the listening passage states that just becasue of the uneven pattern of otter pattern claims that the pollution is not the main cause, and the location discloses that otter do not decrease greatly in the shallow water beacuse the predaors can not survive in those places. By this way, the lecture contradictes the reading passage.
