疑问（1）：
第二空应是“混合物”的同义词，而synthesis和amalgam的确无法分辨，
这两个词的韦氏解释如下：
synthesis：
        a : the composition or combination of parts or elements so as to form a whole
           b : the production of a substance by the union of chemical elements, groups, or simpler compounds or by the degradation of a complex compound
           c : the combining of often diverse conceptions into a coherent whole

amalgam：  a mixture of different elements

synthesis的a和c放在句中实在与amalgam没有什么差别，求解。

疑问（2）：
关于第一个空格的apparition，书中的解释确实精彩，但作为一般考生，谁会像陈圣元那样思考？
说白了，书中对于apparition的解释似乎违背了“不借助考生专业背景，靠逻辑解题”的原则。

建议楼主查下韦氏apparition的意思，我没看过陈圣元的填空，在这里应该是unexpected sight的意思，也就是“突然的现象，神奇的现象”的意思，第二空我觉得也难判定，但第一项很好判定啊，不知道楼主单词基础咋样，红宝上也有这个单词的。
我的做题思路是这样的，关键点有两个not.......but和blending Egyptian and
Assyrian art,显然，not。。but。。。内容相反，与“independently evolved即独立演变”相反，突然的出现很稳合，第二空其他的选项楼主能排除的话就只要看第一空能否把B）中的第一个选项exemplar排除了就行了，比较exemplar和apparition就行
