Do you agree or disagree with the following statement.People who cannot accept the criticism from others will not be successful at working in a group.
When working in a group, it is not unusual to have conflicts between each other and so one person may get criticism from others. It is true that holding on to our own beliefs is important. From my point of view, however, ignoring criticism from team members may be misleading sometimes. Instead, opening the mind to embrace new ideas is the way to success in a group.
To begin with, accepting criticism shows our respect for others, which boost the harmony of the group. If you were a member in that kind of group, would you like to follow a leader who is always stubborn and self-content, or would you like to take an active part while the others all look down on your view? Obviously, the answer is no, and not mention the importance of criticism from others.
Furthermore, different people are adept in different areas, and may not do well in other field. Therefore, there is a need to listen to the expert’s opinion if we are not familiar with this field. Once I participated in a business competition. Since I majored in science studies while most of the rest majored in economics, I took charge in the data process. At the same time, I took others’ advice to study some economics and asked them for help if I meet puzzles. As a result, our team beat those who were all from science department or economics department.
Lastly, as the old saying says, two heads are better than one. Others may find some mistakes that we haven’t paid attention to. Due to their reminder, our team could decrease the possibility of failure and can enhance the efficiency. In history, the emperor of Qing Dynasty was very proud of his own nation and turned a deaf ear to what the ambassador said about foreign countries and also his minister’s suggestions. As a result, his military troops were beat by foreigners easily later on.
Based on the three reasons, i.e., to show respect for others, to break our limits, and to avoid unnecessary errors, I hold the view that accepting the criticism is part and parcel of the team work, which directly relates to the final success.
