Many critics of Emily Bronte’s novel Wuthering Heights see its second part as a counterpoint that comments on, if it does not reverse, the first part, where a “romantic” reading receives more confirmation. 这句话你看下 their 指代什么，指代的是presence of these elements，也就是complex use of narrators and time shifts
这句话表达的是 those elements need not to support the awareness as HJ did, but it ( this elements) indeed encourages attempt to unify the novel's different part.
那么这个 awareness 就是后面的 unify
选项D错在的most (这是个很重要的modifier, any, many, most, some, as many as, at least, many if not all, none, not any, etc)
第二句话说的是 seeing this novel as a whole is encouraged by it's structure
首先这里没有表现出来 HJ encourages others to view the novel as a whole, 更没有说 HJ leads MOST critics to see it as a unify novel.

谢谢Robin大神，我又看了一遍文章，找到了自己为什么中午做的时候错了的原因。一眼飘过了上面一个关键的句子：seeing the two parts as a whole is encouraged by the novel's sophisticated structure, revealed in it complex use of narrators and time shifts.所以匆忙之下就选了D。
下次如果再没时间考虑，我就按照你的suggestion. 遇到这些modifier, most, many, any 就直接排除这个选项。

感觉这个句式相当于否定之否定，相当于承认James is awareness of novelistic construction。
