Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Colleges or universities should offer students a better job preparation before they can start working.
Use specific reasons to support your answer.

Three main responsibilities of colleges or universities are: promoting academic development, cultivating talented people and serving the society. From my own perspective, I would translate these responsibilities as follows. The colleges or universities should first, teach students up-to-date knowledge; then, encourage them to participate in academic researches so that they could apply their knowledge into application and improve their learning ability; finally, when they graduate, they would be able to use their talent to serve the society. So I agree with this statement.

First, which is mentioned above, it is colleges and universities' responsibility. And students could be more competitive when hunting for a job if the college or university offer them a better job preparation. For example, the college or university could help them develop a sense of cooperation and communication through letting them finish homework or projects in a group. As no one is an island and nowadays, much of work is finished by a team, so these abilities could make them quickly adapt to their new working environment and get along well with their colleagues. And, also, if the college or university could grasp the trend of development of a certain field, like computer science, they would instruct their students with knowledge and skills closely related to the job demand. So it would be easier for their students to stand out during interviews or perform better during the work.

Second, the colleages or universities themselves could benefit a lot. If most of their students were hired by famous companies or frontiers of their fields, it would elevate schools' reputation greatly. Consequently, more students would like to apply for the school so that the school could select more intelligent students. And due to that, they could teach more to these students and let them study more challenging issues as smarter students learn faster. Then, these students could go to even better companies. This is a vicuous cycle, isn't it? Besides, graduates may be grateful for the school, so that they would donate much money to the school. As a result, the school would be able to buy more advanced facilities or hire more well-known professors, who would make more contributions to both the school and the field they focus on. All of these would make the school more attractive.

There is no denying that colleges or universities differ from vocational schools and should not only focus on preparing their students for better jobs. I agree. Colleges or universities should focus on pure academic research which may not do a lot of help to their students' future career. But it doesn't means that the college or universities shouldn't prepare their students for better jobs. They can do both and keep a good balance. So I stand for the statement. Imagine a student, a really knowledgable and talented student, who could not apply what s/he knows into practice and could not find a job to make a living, could s/he uses the talent to make more contributions to the society?
