我是两个月前发的套磁信，她现在才刚回复。她是个AP，貌似挺着急招学生的。回信如下：

Dear ***,

Many thanks for your email and inquiry.  My apologies for the very slow reply.  I am just setting up my lab group here at Yale and I have spent most of the fall quite busily working to get the lab built so there is a place for new students and post-docs to sit and work! I am looking to take on graduate students for the Fall of 2014 and was glad to receive an inquiry from someone so interested in foraminifera.

As you saw, my research focuses on issues at the intersection between changes in the physical/chemical paleocenographic environment and (primarily) the response of species and ecosystems to these changes.  If you are interested in pursuing PhD research on topics near this intersection, it would be great to see your application to Yale.

I am traveling at the moment and do not have time unfortunately to discuss specific projects. The graduate application process is quite competitive at Yale, but if your application makes it through, I would be absolutely delighted to talk through PhD projects during Open House, etc.

刚才刚根据苏版建议回了封很短的邮件，然后教授秒回了。原文如下：

Having lived in a foreign country myself several times (in Germany), I understand how difficult it is to really master a foreign language.  That said, I do know that students who are admitted with boarder-line (e.g., fair but not great) English sometimes struggle because they have to do two things at once : 1) learn a lot of exciting science, and 2) master English. This is certainly possible though (I would guess 30-50% of the students in our department are from other countries) but it does help to start at a certain level of fluency.

All that is to say, I am not sure where you fall relative to other students who have English as a second (or third, or fourth) language. I hope the graduate school is helpful in answering your questions.
