If any of your academic results fell short of your expectations, was there a specific reason?
Last term I took Construction Law as my elective course with the expectation to get B+ in the final exam.
During the add-and-drop period of the elective course, I was told by the course lecturer that Construction Law is a legal super subject including diversified legal areas such as Contract, Banking and Finance, Employment, Insurance, Corporate, Land, ADR and so on and so forth. In addition, this course would cover several big tops such as Project Finance, Public Private Partnership and Private Finance Initiative. After the introductory session, many classmates dropped this elective course worrying that they may fail to handle it and get a lousy grade.
I was fully aware of the challenges in taking this course, yet I was also fascinated by its juicy contents. My research on Construction Law practice indicates that many firms in HK and around the world have busy Construction Law departments. The majority of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) taking place in HK involves construction disputes. Project Finance is 50% Construction Law and 50% Banking Law. Most international law firms (even if they do not have Construction Law practice groups) will have Project Finance practice groups. Finally, I decide to take this elective course.
Most of my classmates in this course have Engineering or Architecture education/working background. Without equivalent relevant background knowledge, I got B in the final exam which is less satisfactory; however I enjoyed the fruitful learning experience on this subject.
我还记得这门选修课出成绩时,十分郁闷,四处和同学们说这门课的坏话。现在回想起来,塞翁失马焉知非福,Construction Law is my real life saver!
