面试过 但是没有收到口头或正式offer应该就是进入waiting list吧
Generally, deciding the shortlist is the first step when the admission committe selects students. If you are selected on the shortlist, that means the admission committee would like to offer you the further opporunity to be interviewed before they finalize their decision. However, for some reasons, the number of people on the shortlist is a little bit more than the number the admission committe could recruit. For example, some excellent applicants on the shortlist may want to choose a better graduate program at a better University; some applicants may not be as qualified as what their application materilas reveal.
After one or two rounds of telephone interviews or campus interview/visit, the admission committee will give all the applicants on the shortlist different priorities. maybe we can say that, only those people who are given high priority will receive the offer notifications in first round, while the other peole will be put on the waitinglist. In other words, only if the people with high priority give up their offers, the applicants on the waitinglist could get the chance. More specificly, if you want to know your chance to get the offer when you are put on the waitinglist, it will depends on three factors: the first is how many people would like to give up their offers; the second is how your priority on the waitinglist is; the last is luck.
