Dear Wei Dong:
If you have not already heard from them, you will shortly be getting a
notice from the EECS department at MIT, informing you that you have
been admitted to the graduate program in Computer Science at MIT next
fall. Congratulations!!
Over the next several weeks you will be making a difficult and
important decision: Which graduate school to attend? To help you make
an informed decision, we would like to invite you to attend our annual
Graduate Admissions Visit Weekend. Each year, we invite all of the
newly admitted Computer Science graduate students to visit MIT. We
organize a series of events, including an introduction to MIT and the
graduate program, an overview of research in the Computer Science
and the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, and individual interviews
with faculty members that have overlapping research interests. We
also arrange for you to spend time with our current graduate students,
who can give you a detailed sense of what graduate student life is
like at MIT.
This year, the visit weekend is scheduled for Saturday March 5 and
Sunday March 6. The primary activities will take place on Sunday.
Saturday afternoon our students hold informal get-togethers for those
of you who are here before the pizza dinner. Both Saturday and Sunday
are low-key events organized for you to get familiar with us.
We will arrange lodging for you, typically with a current graduate
student. (If you prefer, we will place you in a local hotel, but
staying with students is more informative.) We will cover all
reasonable travel expenses up to a maximum of $500, independent of
whether you are traveling from within the US or from abroad. Please,
make travel arrangements soon in order to get lower fares, and we ask
that you plan to stay over on the 6th, as a Saturday layover usually
reduces fares.
For details on the visit weekend and information about your plans, please
see:

If you have any questions of a logistical nature, please contact Neena
Lyall (lyall@csail.mit.edu). For other questions, feel free to
contact me.
Given the distance and short time between now and the visiting, I realize it
is difficult for you to come, but I want to invite you at least.
Again -- congratulations! We look forward to seeing you in person on
March 5 and 6.
Sincerely,
Frans Kaashoek
MIT Professor of Computer Science and Engineering
