142.The article entitled 'Eating Iron' in last month's issue of Eating for He

iron in the diet and an increased risk of heart disease. Further, it is well
established that there is a link between large amounts of red meat in the die

and the well-established link between red meat and heart disease, we can conc
lude that the correlation between high iron levels and heart disease, then, i
s most probably a function of the correlation between red meat and heart dise

Argument:

170.For the past five years, consumers in California have been willing to
pay twice as much for oysters from the northeastern Atlantic Coast as for
Gulf Coast oysters. This trend began shortly after harmful bacteria were
found in a few raw Gulf Coast oysters. But scientists have now devised a
process for killing the bacteria. Once consumers are made aware of the
increased safety of Gulf Coast oysters, they are likely to be willing to pay
as much for Gulf Coast as for northeastern Atlantic Coast oysters, and
greater profits for Gulf Coast oyster producers will follow.

Argument:
147.The following appeared in an editorial in a business magazine.

"Although the sales of Whirlwind video games have declined over the past two
years, a recent survey of video-game players suggests that this sales trend i
s about to be reversed. The survey asked video-game players what features the
y thought were most important in a video game. According to the survey, playe
rs prefer games that provide lifelike graphics, which require the most up-to-
date computers. Whirlwind has just introduced several such games with an exte
nsive advertising campaign directed at people 10 to 25 years old, the age-gro
up most likely to play video games. It follows, then, that the sales of Whirl
wind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months."

ISSUE47:"Society does not place enough emphasis on the intellect-that is, on
reasoning and other cognitive skills."
另外一道issue是关于历史的,题目没看清,抱歉;

ARGUMENT143:The following appeared as a letter to the editor of a national ne
wspaper.
"Your recent article on corporate downsizing* in the United States is misleadi
ng. The article gives the mistaken impression that many competent workers who
lost jobs as a result of downsizing face serious economic hardship, often for
years, before finding other suitable employment. But this impression is contra
dicted by a recent report on the United States economy, which found that since
1992 far more jobs have been created than have been eliminated. The report al
so demonstrates that many of those who lost their jobs have found new employme
nt. Two-thirds of the newly created jobs have been in industries that tend to
pay above-average wages, and the vast majority of these jobs are full-time."

*Downsizing is the process in which corporations deliberately reduce the numbe
r of their employees.

ISSUE:

ARGUMENT:

bless all gters!

This hypothesis has now been proved by preliminary results of a study of two groups of patients. The first group of patients, all being treated for muscle injuries by Dr. Newland, a doctor who specializes in sports medicine, took antibiotics regularly throughout their treatment. Their recuperation time was, on average, 40 percent quicker than typically expected. Patients in the second group, all being
