第一道题目：假如单纯从语法意义上来讲，我认为选B. 此处" possibly"作副词修饰" made"，因为" make great strides" 是固定词组。选项A读上去很顺口，只是"  it possible"中" it" 所指何物？；选项B就更不合适，作为形容词" possible"修饰谁呢？；D选项也显然不对。

第二道题目：选A，此处可改为" establishing"。或者按照eachyu所说的，在" establishment" 后加" of".

余以为第一题C。make sth possible好像是固定用法吧，当sth太臭长时可改为make possible sth表达。
第二题，establishment名词，subsistence名词，两个名词没有连接肯定不能。
前面改形容词，or中间of连接
