同志们,今天在收EMAIL时,THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA 说他们不接受中国学生的COMPUTER GRE 要求是PAPER GRE!让我气愤,并发信一封要求他们重新考虑这件事情!
Dear Yalin Meng,
Thank you for your interest in Transportation at the University of Minnesota.  We will give full consideration to your application on arrival, but can make no commitments at this time, as student admissions depend on funding availability, which will be unknown until March.  In general we prefer students interested in the PhD to those interested in the MS. Our requirements are not specific for GRE (the higher the better, > 700 each in Qualitative and Analytical is typical), for Chinese students we now require the paper GRE exam and will not consider computerized GRE test scores as valid.  The  GPA must be higher than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale to be considered (> 7.5 on a 10 point scale) (again the higher the better) and the TOEFL must be above 600 on the old scale.  Admissions to the University of Minnesota are very competitive and fewer than 10% of applicants are admitted.

The Educational Testing Service has reported problems, particularly with
the computer-based test.  This has not prevented us from accepting a
number of applicants from China, but high test scores alone would not be
sufficient.  The personal statement, academic record, recommendations, and
evidence of English language ability are all very important.  You could
retake the GRE this fall (paper version) if you think that would
strengthen your application.

Taiwan, and Korea you are required to take the paper-based
version of the GRE. The University of Minnesota will not
accept computer-based scores of the GRE for the 2003
academic year. Please note that the next date for the
paper-based test is November 23, 2002. YOU MUST TAKE THE
TEST ON THIS DATE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR FALL SEMESTER 2003,

"Because the Educational Testing Service (ETS) has indicated a problem with
the validity of the computer-based GRE examinations taken in China, Taiwan
and Korea, we are accepting only scores from paper-based GRE examinations
taken in those countries. If you have taken a computer-based GRE test in
China, Taiwan or Korea, we are requiring that you retake the GRE as a
paper-based test. We understand this is a financial hardship and we regret
having to take this action since we realize most students are honest."

Admission decisions are not made solely on the basis of GRE scores.
Graduate deans will continue to consider GRE scores as just one part
of the admission package submitted by students. Scores on the test
will have to be supported by grade transcripts,
essays, letters of recommendation from teachers and other
information.

有材料表明sure），下面这几个学校或者是铁定不要机考成绩，或者
是suggest笔考成绩，或者是告诉你等你到笔考成绩没问题。
1.Purdue （mail to me， EECS，教你放心考pbt，不要担心时间）

3.harvard （要2001。1－10月的，再加一个writing，反正必须受带writing的，态度强硬）

8.umn 第一个正式reject 机考的学校。
9.ufl （mail to me，concern 作弊的事情，建议笔考）

faint，现在重考报名也没出来，就像考，也不定能报上阿。ttnd，这些
学校只要关注这个cheating事情，不就等于歧视机考吗？ 本来申请的人
多，给offer的少，如果这个学校再接收笔考成绩（调整deadline，如果必要）
那笔考的人不就是一些具有高度竞争力的人吗？

Admissions accepts either the paper-based or computer-based GRE scores. For
the scores to be considered official they must be sent directly from the
testing service. The code you will use is 1592.
