With the development of technology, television is gradually becoming one important approach to learn knowledge. I partially agree the statement that reading books is not as important as it once was. However, the suggestion that people can learn as much as by watching television is not convincing.

It is clear that reading books is no longer important as it once was because, as for teaching functions, television is superior to reading books because as teaching is more vivid and more impressive. Featuring vivid image and attracting sounds, television provides a more effective way of learning than reading books does.  The reason is that combination of sound and video, which is the advantage of television teaching, makes the knowledge from television more straightforward and more specific than that from reading books. Consider the animated cartoon and comic written in words. Instead of reading comics written in words, children apparently prefer to sit on the television laughing and crying with the continuing plots in the animated cartoon. Listening to the unforgettable sentence in intense emotion and seeing the moving image, television can intrigue the emotion of audience and therefore cultivate people more effectively.

However, because of some critical defects in certain essential steps of learning knowledge such as acquisition and revision in the education from watching television compared with that from reading books, hardly can people acquire the same knowledge from television as that from reading books.

One important factor that impedes learning knowledge from television is that, compared with reading books, people are less free to acquire knowledge that will be learned from the television due to the commercial consideration from television program producers. Since gaining knowledge is the critical part in learning knowledge, the knowledge gained will affect the knowledge learned in any case. Suppose one want to learn cooking many kinds of dishes in a short time. As far as television education is concerned, it is unfortunately that, considering the maximum profit, television program producers are much likely to cut the teaching program into several piece to attract the audience and to set different programs to meet the needs of other people. In short, the television program administers would not give up their commercial benefits to reach the hope of someone who want to learn cooking in a short time. In contrast, hardly can we imagine the writer of a cooking book will cut his book into several books and seldom does a reader lack freedom to choose the book he wants if he want to go libraries and bookstores or order the book on the Internet. One can easily learn as much as knowledge from book as soon as he buys the book.

In addition, the review of knowledge, as an irreplaceable course of learning information, can be more promising in terms of reading books compared with watching television. As known to all, learning knowledge is not simply equal to gaining knowledge. Learning knowledge needs not only gaining knowledge from certain media but also require enough review to memorizing knowledge. Reading books depends only on the preference of the readers, readers can review the knowledge learned effectively according to one’s distinctive memory.  However, with regard to the education from television, it is not the case. Since the repetitive program on the television depends on the profit oriented from the reaction from most audience and the potential sponsors, one may have unpredictable opportunity to review the knowledge from watching television. It is entirely possible that because of the apathy reaction from audience, original programs will never be shown again.

In conclusion, it is convincing that reading books is no longer important as it once was because of the invention of television, but we cannot gain as much knowledge from watching television as that from reading books. The reason is, Attributing to the program producers' consideration of profits, people has less freedom to gain information and fewer opportunities to review the information in order to learn the knowledge from television when compared with reading books.

It is clear that reading books is no longer important as it once was because, as for teaching functions, television is superior to reading books because(是不是去掉一个连词) as teaching(是不是反了,应该是television is more ...吧?) is more vivid and more impressive. Instead of reading comics written in words, children apparently prefer to sit on(这个...8要坐在电视机上面,压坏鸟...^_^sit in front of ) the television laughing and crying with the continuing plots in the animated cartoon. Listening to the unforgettable sentence in intense emotion and seeing the moving image, television can intrigue the emotion of audience and therefore cultivate people more effectively. 这段的论点和例子似乎有点问题,动画片和teaching这个功能的联系似乎远了点

Since gaining knowledge is the critical part in learning knowledge, the knowledge gained will affect the knowledge learned in any case.(这句写得我晕头转向的,貌似跟下面也没有什么关系) Suppose one want to learn cooking many kinds of dishes in a short time. 感觉这段的论证很好^_^

In addition, the review of knowledge, as an irreplaceable course of learning information, can be more promising in terms of reading books compared with watching television. As (is) known to all, learning knowledge is not simply equal to gaining knowledge. Learning knowledge needs not only gaining knowledge from certain media but also require enough review to memorizing knowledge. (原来这里有解释^_^)Reading books depends only on the preference of the readers, readers can review the knowledge learned effectively according to one’s distinctive memory.  However, with regard to the education from television, it is not the case. Since the repetitive program on the television depends on the profit oriented from the reaction from most audience and the potential sponsors, one may have unpredictable opportunity to review the knowledge from watching television. It is entirely possible that because of the apathy reaction from audience, original programs will never be shown again.这里可以再说一下这样的后果,再扣一下题
