In this argument, based on the sales of cheese and the study carried out by a magazine, the arguer concludes that the company should discontinue stocking imported cheeses to increase profit. Though at first glance, the arguer's contention seems logic, the argument is actually problematic in several aspects.

In the first place, the mere fact that the five domestic cheeses sell best in the newest stores amounts to scant evidence to support the contention. After all, sale records at the newest store were hardly strong indicators of the preference of consumers as a whole. It is possible that the newest store was located in Wisconsin, where domestic cheeses, especially those produced in Wisconsin are significantly more economics than imported cheeses. Or perhaps the newest store does not provide imported cheeses at all. Under such circumstances, it is unfair to conclude that the sale of domestic cheeses will take over that of imported ones, thus the sale record lend little, if any, support to the contention of the arguer.

Moreover, to substantiate the claim, the arguer cited the result of a recent survey carried out by World magazine, which I find lend hardly any strong support to the conclusion. For one thing, the arguer does not provide any information on the fairness of the survey. Without the information of who is the conductor and how the survey is conducted, we may well suspect that the survey was sponsored by the Union of US Cheese producer and the result has been manipulated in favor of the manufacture of domestic cheese. For another, lack of information of subscriber of the magazine who participated in the survey, the result should not be taken as an indicator of the preference of customers as a whole for cheeses. It is entirely possible that people who prefer domestic cheeses are more likely to participate in the survey.

Even granted that domestic cheeses are gaining favor of the customers, the arguer does not provide sufficient evidence to convince us of the strategy he or she advocates will take effect. Discontinue the stocking of many of imported cheeses may bring the company more detrimental than benefit. Since the arguer fails to present sufficient evidence on the percentage of their customers who prefer imported cheeses and the percentage of their customers who will choose another cheese store when there is no imported cheeses at stock. Without further details discussed above, I am not convinced of the conclusion drawn by the arguer.

In the final analysis, this argument is weakly supported. To further corroborate the advocation, the arguer has to verify the fairness the survey. The arguer also has to provide related evidence on his strategy he draw in the conclusion.
