而short of 刚好有是...的简略的意思

而这句话表面理解起来就是
the hair of the dog, 是一饮用后用来解除昨晚所有酒精引起的头痛的一种酒的简略表达。
背景1，the hair of the dog是解酒药 背景2， 它本身也是酒。

不知道理解得是不是正确。。

the hair of the dog 是醒酒液的意思。
  但本人以为 is shot of 应改为 is sort of ! (''be shot of''---不存在这样的词组)

   所以该句话可理解为:
  '解酒液' 是一种能让你停止由于前天晚上过度醺酒而引起的头痛的解醉酒...

short of 好像没有''是...简略''的意思哦`` 那个是short for 吧...
而short + of 更多是缺乏的意思...

Okay, we all learned in high school biology that the genes come in pairs, one copy from mom, one from dad. In reality, things aren't always that simple, for some genes, we get multiple copies, such as the genes for Salisbury amylase the enzyme that kicks off the digestion of starch. One average we humans have half a dozen copy of that genes. I say "on average" because not everyone has six, one person could have two, and another could have ten. What the  Santa Cruz scientists discovered is individuals from population that eat a lot starch, potatoes or corn or rice,  `` to the high rent of that copy number spectrum, and that quite a natural selection, more amylase probably confirmed the fitness banish to those who eating starchy foods.
