Break out the  Bonorcurism  telescpoes on Saturday may 19th, because it's  the first international sidework  astraunomy night.
Sidework astraunomer's was founded in SanFranciso 1968 when a lot of people were seeing stars and not just the night.
The group's goal is to expose more people to the beauty and wonder of source Geoglogy(?) with good viewing  equipment and provide information about what others were actually looking at.
The most frequently viewed subjects are the moon,Jupital whose major moon is visible good Bonorcurism and Saturn.
I once chained cheap telescope on Saturn and some friends were so amazed that the Saturn rains.They serously look at the other under the scope to see other have doctered some hell.
Sidework astraunomy night is indeed international event with dozens of public viewing sights from Beijing to the corner of 18 1st street central park western Mahaton.

Thanks to the 60-second science linked with this forum, I went to a local observing site last Saturday night. My kids urged me to get there earlier, but I insisted it was not getting dark, so until 9:30, we would not leave home. When we got there, around 60 people waiting in lines. There were four telescopes for watching Saturn and one binocular for the crescent moon. I happened to see a neighbor who was back from the site. He told me we would not have a chance to see Jupiter because it already set. It was not so regretful for me. I saw it two years ago. I even observed 4 moons of Jupiter then.
This year's astronomer night brought many serious amateurs to the site. I was amazed by these serious amateurs. Their equipment varies a lot. The most advanced one is 140 power (amplify 140 times) with automatical adjust by computer. The oldest telescope is only 30 power. It is surprising that this oldest one was made by a local amateur in 1946. The current owner just bought it recently from the first owner.
The Saturn looks like a spot in the 30 power telescope. I didn't see much through it. Other telescopes, one with 120 power and another with 140 power really game the opportunity. I observed the beautiful ring around the planet. I also noticed 2 moons at the distance 2-3 times of the size of the bright ring.
Not much for the crescent moon, I observed many craters, but nothing new.
Anyway, I had a very good time that night. I talked with many people with more or less astronomic knowledge. I saw the Mars some years ago. It looked like our moon with features. Venus is so bright and every one can see it at dawn or twilight. I also experienced Harry comet’s sweeping earth in 1998. Saturday night made up a lesson for me to watch the planets in our solar system.
