Ladder Injuries Up 50 Percent

Is behavior influenced by we see in movies and TV? While there are typical 3 stages of movie features the trail involved in painful accidents often along engaged in home repairs. And on April 16th episode 60-second-science, we were reported on the huge increasing male gun accidents related to the boom in home handymen(受雇做杂事的人, 做零活的人). Now there is a research showing more of us are falling of ladders, according to a study in the May issue of American Journal of Preventing Medicine, more than 2.1 million people were treated in US emergency rooms for ladder accidents from 1990 to 2005. And during this study period the number of incidents continues to rise going up from 50% in 2005 compared with 1990. It’s the first study to use national data to analyze ladder related injuries. The data were collected by the national electronic injury surveillance(检测) system run by the US consumer products safety commission. The surveillance is s useful way to discover accidents trends that might fly below radar. The researchers are better education to prevent at least some injuries.

May 11, 2007: 60-Second Science
North America Still Bouncing Back From Ice Age

Sheets of ice almost 2 miles stick once covered most of Canada and Northeastern of US. And although the ice were retreated thousands of years ago, a new study finds that the gravitational field over north America is stilling under changing as a result of the ice sheets have been there. The study appears in May 11th Journal Science and its result 4 years of data from the two satellites that measure the earth gravitation field. The purpose was to examine the gravitation field, find subtle changes in the distribution of the planets mass. And the research did uncover evidence that parts of the earth’s crust are still rebounding form being crushed down by the incredible weight of massive Laurentide ice sheet. The gravitation evidence yields information about the geometry of the ice while helps us understand the ice age climate. It is also important for improving the climate database that come into play when interpreting the modern climate records. One of the research involved in the study put to adequately, the ghost of ice age still haunts around North America.

May 14 听抄,坚持:loveliness:

A heart beats 3 billion times in an average life span. And sometimesthose beats raise, like when you run into a grisly bear, or climb stairs, orfall in love. Such moments can more than double the average heart rate of 70beats per minute, speeding it up to 170 beats and we feel it, palpitation, dizziness, breathlessness. Scientistshave a good idea what causes a raising heart and increasing adrenal in sense signal to the pace maker celllocated in the operate chamber. The cell then sets off dominoeffect that speeds up the muscle contractions. What scientists don't understandthough is what make the heart beats slow back down. But a team in theUniversity Illinois Chicago city found a promising clue, if isolated the enzymecalled P-21 activated canaise (写的谐音) or pack one, that affects electronical channel inside the pace maker cell. Thescientists have shown that by turning on pack one, they can reduce electronicalchannel activity and slow down the heart. They are now working on finding thedrug treatment that can control the enzyme. Hoping that medicine might replace artificial pace makers. Be still, my beating heart.

May 14

A heart beats 3 billion times in an average life span, and sometimes those beats race, like when you run into a grisly bear, or climb stairs or fall in love. Such moments can more than double the average heart rate of 70 beats per minute, beating it (speeding) up to 160 beats. And we feel it-palpitations, dizziness, breathlessness. Scientists have a good idea what causes racing heart and increasing adrenaline in sense of signal pacemaker cell located in the operate chamber. The cell then sets off domino affects the beats and (that speeding up) the muscle contractions. What scientists still (don't) understand though is what makes the heart beats slow back down. But a team in the university of Illinois Chicago city found a promising clue. If isolated the (no the) enzyme called p-21 activated kinases or PAK-1 that affects electrical channels inside the pacemaker cell. Scientists have shown that by turning on PAK-1 they can reduce electrical channel activity and slow down the heart. They’re now working on finding a drug treatment that can control this enzyme, hoping that medicine might replace artificial pacemakers. Be still my beating heart.

A muscle contraction (also known as a muscle twitch or simply twitch) occurs when a muscle cell (called a muscle fiber) lengthens or shortens.

蓝字都是我的修改。明天找人帮忙听呵~^^

May 15

You have probably heard the world’s honeybee has suffers stinging loss lately that’s a big story for us too. Up to twelve billion dollars in crops rely on fuzz flyers for pollination. Of the 2.4 million honeybee colonies in the U.S. about 1 million die off this past winter. This decline also been seen in Europe and Asia. The die-offs have been double the colony collapse disorder and vanishing bee syndrome. A couple of spices of mites that attack bees were responsible for similar die offs in the winter 95/96 and 2000/2001.And mites maybe partly to blame for the most recent honeybee losses. But a quarter of current carnage seems unrelated to mites and the other pests. Other suggests causes the bee decline include the genetically modified foods, parasite, pesticide and cell phone radiation. But bee experts Nicholas Calderone at Cornell University said last week that the definitive cause remain elusive. He will spend this summer investigation honeybee colonies throughout northeast try to solve the case of that bees. Here is opening the buzz with answer.

May 15 的听抄, 加油啊!:)

forerunner 很厉害了,不过我还有几处和你不同:confused:

You've probably heard that the world's honeybees have suffered stinging losses lately, that's a big story for us too. Up to 12 billion dollars in crops rely on the fussy fliers for Polynesian,of the 2.4 million honeybee colonies in the U.S. about 1 million died off this past winter. Big declines have also been seen in Europe and Asian. The die-off has been adopted (not sure?) colony collapse disorderand vanishing bee syndrome. A couple of species of mites that attackbees were responsible for similar die-offs in the winters of 95, 96 and2000, 2001, and the mites may be partly to blame for the most recentlyhoneybee losses, but a quarter of (the) currently(current) carnage seems unrelated to mites or another (any other)pests. Other suggested causes of the bee decline include geneticallymodified foods, parasites, pesticides, and cell phone radiation. Butbee expert N.C of Cornell University said last week that the definitivecause remains elusive, he will spend this summer investigating honeybee colonies throughout the northeast trying to solve the case of deadbees, here's (这句听起来应该是这样,但语法好像有点问题) hoping he buzzes in with an answer.

You probably heard the world’s Honeybees have suffered stinging losses lately. That’s a big story for us too. Up to 12billion dollars in crops rely on the fuzzy(毛绒绒的,不是fussy爱挑剔的) fliers for pollination(应该是这个,授粉,不是Polynesian波西尼亚人). Of the 2.4 billion honeybee colonies in the US about 1 million died off this past winter. Big declines also have been seen in Europeand Asia. The die-off has been dubbed(不是adopted) the colony collapse disorder and the vanishing bee syndrome. A couple of species of mites thatattack bees were responsible for similar die-offs in the winters of 95, 96 and2000, 2001. And mites may be partly to blame for the most recent honeybee losses. But bee expert N.. of Cornell University said last week that the definitive cause remains elusive. He will spend this summer investigating honeybee colonies throughout the northeast trying to solvethe case of dead bees. He’s hoping a buzz thing with the answer(不确定).
