This week scientists from the University of Utahannounced that if the earth's crust were not so toasty warm, most of North America would be under sea.  Most people think that mountains were made bythe movement of the tectonic plates, those massive slabs of land that driftacross the Earth's surface. True tectonic forces do build mountains. But theydo so in part by changing the temperature of the rocks they move. Hot rocks areless dense and more buoyant. And the more buoyant as you are, the higher youfloat. The Utahscientists used computer program to chill the Northern American crust to about750 degrees Fahrenheit. That's the temperature of the coldest crustal rock in thecontinent which covers half of Canada.Without the heat, North America sank. New York city drops a quarter mile into the Atlantic, Dallas, Chicago,Los Vegas ... all blub blub blub. Interestingly, the adjustment causes Seattle to soar to anelevation of nearly 6000 feet. That's because the Emerald Cityhappen to be sitting on a crust:confused: colder than average. So tweaking the temperature makesthat area warmer and higher. Just something to keep in mind if you are lookingto seek the high ground:confused:.

Seattle was first settled November 14, 1851, by Arthur A. Denny and his crew, which would subsequently become known as the Denny party. Its first name was New York, then Duwamps, then finally it was renamed Seattle after Chief Noah Sealth who was chief of the two tribes living in the area ("Seattle" is an anglicized rendition of his last name). As of 2006, the city had an estimated population of 578,700[1] and an estimated metropolitan area population of approximately 3.3 million[2]. Seattle is the hub for the Greater Puget Sound region. Its official nickname is the Emerald City, the result of a contest by a civic-minded association in the early 1980s to designate a pleasant nickname for the city;[3] the name alludes to the lush evergreen trees in the surrounding area. It is also referred to informally as the Gateway to Alaska, Queen City, and Jet City, due to the local influence of Boeing. (Seattle-area band Queensrÿche also wrote a song called "Jet City Woman".) Seattle residents are known as Seattleites.

This week scientists from University of Utah announced that if the earth’s crust were not toasted warm, most of North American would be under sea. Most people think the mountain is made by moving tectonic plates, those massive slab of land that drift across the earth’s surface. True tectonic forces do build mountains. But they do so in part by changing the temperature of the rock they move. Hot rocks are less dense, and more buoyant. And the more buoyant you are, the higher you afloat. The Utah scientist use computer program to chill the North American crust about 750 Fahrenheit. That is the temperature of the coldest crustal rock of the continent that covers half of Canada. Without the heat, North America sank. New York City, drop a quarter of miles beneath the Atlantic. Dalas, Chicago, Las Vegas, all bla bla. Interestingly the adjustment causes Seattle to soar to an elevation nearly 6000 feet. That is because the Emerald city happen to be set on a crust colder than average. So twist the temperature make that place warmer and higher. Just something to keep you in mind if you are looking to see high ground.

Honestly I have to listen many times (over 10) to get my dictation done.
The first time I do, I just get the main topic or idea, though some is wrong.
I even have difficulty in getting a complete sentence for the first trial. Coparing with others I can figure out one vague pronounciation. Take today's as an example. I hear a "SO:" after the Seattle but I can not write the word. I hear a slide or slab after the tectonic plate. Anyway we should listen more so we can be more familiar with the words, tunes and the comprehensive understand.

不得不佩服zhenzhen_163
如果没有Emerald City的提示
我也不会知道它是Seattle的nickname
bottom up的学习者还是需要有个top down的导师

Ref
The city of Seattle, Washington, of the United States uses "The Emerald City" as its official nickname, on account of how green it is in that region of the world. (Note: Washington State is also known as the "Evergreen State").

This week scientists from the University of Utah announced that of the earth crust? so toasty warm, most of North America would be undersea. Most people think that mountains are made by the movement of Tectonic Plates those massive of slabs of land that drifted across the earth surface. True, Tectonic forces do belt mountains, but they do so in part by changing the temperature of the rocks they move. Hot rocks are less dense and more buoyant and the more buoyant you are, the higher you float. The Utah scientists use a computer program to chill the North American crust to about 750 degree Fahrenheit that’s the temperature of the coldest crusted rock in the continent which covers half of Canada. Without the heat  North of America sink, New York City dropped a quarter mile into the Atlantic, Dallas, Chicago, Las vegas or blub, blub, blub……Interestingly, the adjustment calls Seattle to thaw to an elevation of nearly 6,000 feet. That is because the Amor City happens to be seating on crust that is colder than average, so tweaking the temperatures makes that area warmer and higher. Just sounds to keep in mind if you are looking to sit at the high ground.

I think this is an incomplete expression.
The complete sentence should be like this:
You should have just something to keep in mind if you are looking to seek the high ground.

omit the subject won't lose anything meaningful component with context.
