The speaker asserts that faculties with relevant experience of the course they teach can provide a better impartment to college students. I agree with this statement when it refers to the subjects which need practical experience. As for basic subjects and abstract subjects, just research inside the academic is enough.
Practical experience is essential to some subjects. First, the speed of knowledge increasing in some areas is so high that the information in college books is outdated to a certain extent. For example, the content of economics has experienced tremendous changes in last century. Many new theories appear at first in the journals, and then in the conferences, and last in the colleges books. The reason lies in that any new problem is founded in the real economical and social environment which is the natural laboratory of economics. So faculties can not inform the recent development of this academic without the professional experience relevant to the courses. Second, the professional experience of a teacher can guide the students in their career planning of future. After all, many subjects do not have direct relations to special profession. Consider, the major of atmosphere or global geography. These majors have few aspects to meet a certain work; therefore bring some perplexity to the students when looking for a job. If the teachers have relevant professions, they may offer students a better understanding of their major.
However, to pursue a profession go to extreme is harmful to both teachers and students. Many faculties have a second profession and earn much money than only in college. This phenomenon drives other teachers to engage a business outside the academic world. No one has endless energies to complete all the work perfectly. An outside work is certain to affect their teaching. A joke interprets this phenomenon ridiculously: It is professors who publish their books and merchants who earn their money, while it is merchants who publish their books and professors who earn their money. The joke indicates the unsatisfied moods of public to the professors. Therefore, to be a qualified/eligible faculty, the first obligation is to educate, to cultivate, to edify students who represent the blueprint of a nation. Education should not be industrialized and teachers should no be profit-driving creatures.
In sum, for practical subjects, it is beneficial for faculty to have a profession outside the academic. However, teachers should focus their attentions on teaching and provide a good impartment to students.
1。just research inside the academic is enough.
2.After all, many subjects do not have direct relations to special profession. Consider, the major of atmosphere or global geography. These majors have few aspects to meet a certain work; therefore bring some perplexity to the students when looking for a job.
3。to pursue a profession go to extreme is harmful to both teachers and students.
4。to engage a business改为 engage in
6。However, teachers should focus their attentions on teaching and provide a good impartment to students.
(I agree with this statement when it refers to the subjects which need practical experience.
