刚写的 请大家狂批 给我说说这是个什么水平
题目:ARGUMENT182 - Butter has now been replaced by margarine in Happy Pancake House restaurants throughout the southwestern United States. Only about 2 percent of customers have complained, indicating that 98 people out of 100 are happy with the change. Furthermore, many servers have reported that a number of customers who still ask for butter do not complain when they are given margarine instead. Clearly, either these customers cannot distinguish margarine from butter, or they use the term "butter" to refer to either butter or margarine. Thus, to avoid the expense of purchasing butter, the Happy Pancake House should extend this cost-saving change to its restaurants in the southeast and northeast as well.

In this argument the arguer concludes that the Happy Pancake House should promote the cost-saving change of replacing butter with margarine in the southeast and northeast region in order to compress the dear expense of purchasing butter. To support this assertion, the arguer cites a statistic fact of the southwestern United States where such policy is conducted, showing that only 2% of the customers complained about the change which indicates that 98% are satisfied with this replacement. The arguer also points out that the quite a number of customerms do not cast any controversies when given margarine while they have previously ordered butter. However, the arguer's contention contains several fallacies , rendering it unconvincing as it stands.
To begin with, the author provides the survey conducted in the southeastern region, that only 2 percent people disapprove such replacement, indicating the other 98 percent's satisfaction, thus this margarine-butter replacement worth a broader region promotion. Apparently ,the author draws this conclusion based on a unwarranted assuption that people's preference over butter and margarine and their attitudes toward such an replacement is exactly the same in the southeast and northeast region. Lacking evidence, it is equally possible that people in southeast and northeast region give more preference to butter than margraine and would cast great resentment if butter is replaced. If this is the case, then the author's ambition of extending such a policy would be highly risky.
Even if people's favor and satisfaction towards such an replacement is in accordence with that in other parts of US, the credictability of such survey remains questionable. If this survey only samples100 people, thus the results would be unjustified for the preference of the only 100 people is too constraint too reflect the gerneral perspective on such extention. It is also as likely that the people sampled are the certain supporter of the margrine replacement and their particular prefernce sitimulats their willingness to participate in the investigation. Without ruling out the evidence that there is a massive number of poeple investigated and that the statistical reportor randomly sorted up insights from different group of people, the author cannot convince me that the plan of replacing butter for margraine worth the exention.
thirdly, to futher legitimize his assertion, the arguer points out that a number of customers who initially ask fot butter does not coMplain when given margrine instead. However, the arguer cannot convince me because no evidence has provided to present the overall amount of customers who patronize the restaurant, thus it is entirly possible that in a day when the flowing number of the customer is 2000, 5oo people shows no resentement on such a replacement, while possibly 1500 people show dissatifaction. Even if the customers witout complainments constitutes the majority, the unresented reflection does not necessarily indicates that the customer is unable to distinguish butter from margrain or that they comply to such an action. Perhaps they do so primarily out of the autruistic consideration of not bothering the servant,or perhaps they are hurrying for an immportant conference which allows no time for them to reason with the replacement. Without considering or ruling out the overall number of customer and other factors which may contribute to the customers' indifference, the author connot confidently ensure that the promotion of such an replacing policy would surely succeed.
Finally, the author adopt such a policy with the view of reducing the material purchase, however, the arguer exclusively eliminate the possible results that the flavor of dishes in Happy Pancake House may therefore leads to a declinement of quality. It is imaginable that once it's frequent patronizers find the dishes's flavor in Happy Pancake House deviate their oringal preference, the customers are entirely possible in search of other pancake shops instead of Happy Pancake House to cater their preference. Without providing futher evidence to analyses this policy is conducted on the bases of food guarranteed, the auguer's expanation is unconvincing.
TO Conclude, the arguement is unconving as it stands. To better strength it the author must show that people in the southeast and northeast region has an attitudes and preference in accordance with the southwestern customers and ensure that the number of the people sampled is large enough to substantiate a objective attitudes towards such an policy. The author must also provide the evidence to eliminate the possibilities wjich may result in the customers unresented relflextion when given the replaced butter and rule out sufficient statistics to bolster that such conduction will not lead to quality reduction of food in Happy Pancake House. |
