"Several factors indicate that radio station KNOW should shift its programming from rock-and-roll music to a continuous news format. Consider, for example, the number of older people in our listening area has increased dramatically, while the total number of our listeners has recently declined. Also, music stores in our area report decreased sales of recorded music. Finally, continuous news stations in neighboring cities have been very successful, and a survey taken just before the recent election shows that local citizens are interested in becoming better informed about politics."

The author concludes that the radio station VNOW should turn its rock-and -roll music programes to format news in order to attractinduce the older listeners. To justify this assertion, the author cited a decline in the total number of KNOW's listeners and an increase trend of older listener, and cited decreased sales of recorded music.  Furthermore, an analogue between KNOW and a news station  located in neighboring cities it is mentioned. This argument is well organized, however, it is flawed if several critical logical pionts, which render it overall(?) unpersuasive as it stands.
To the first point, the author  assumes that the older listerners are in favor of format news, nevertheless, there are not any information to prove this assumption, it is entirelly possible that most of older people in the cover of KNOW are crazy rock-and-roll fans, or that they are interest in other programs, such as scoccer and dialogue programes, without ruoling out these alternative, it is unfair to (得到) the assertion that the programes should be shifted to  formal news.
To the second point, the decline in the recorded music is not a appropriate indicationer(?) of sale of the rock-and-roll  music. Apart from rock-and-roll, classic music, folk music are also important incorpoerates（组成部分？） of music. Possiblelly, it is
them that result in an decline in sales of record, with a constant ,or even increasing trend of sale in the rock-and-roll  music. In addition, the group consume in music shop may not always listern to KNOW's program, which render them not attribute to the recommendation of KNOW's shift of programs
To the last point, the successful sample(例子？)that the news stations in neighboring cities are more interested in  about politics will not necessarily apply to us.  it is not ensured that the flare in politics will continue after the elevation. In this spesecific period, citizens are interested in politics but it may be temporal. More, the participaents in the survey might inclined to politic programs, result in an unfair in statistic.
In conclusion, the assertion that the radio station VNOW should turn its roch-and -roll music programs to format news is unconvincting, at least based on  this memorandum. To convince me that the older actually in favor of political news, the author should give clearer evidence that it is the case, apparent with(?) exact statistical data.
