先写一个,我有一篇刚写好的Argument可不可以啊?Issue还没开始准备呢。
第一次写出来自己比较满意的,我就指望这一个月时间搞定GRE的AW了。呵呵。
TOPIC: ARGUMENT200 - Statistics collectedfrom dentists indicate that three times more men than women faint whilevisiting the dentist. This evidence suggests that men are more likely to bedistressed about having dental work done than women are. Thus, dentists whoadvertise to attract patients should target the male consumer and emphasizeboth the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity oftheir staff to nervous or suffering patients.

In this argument, the author concludes thatmen are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done, and s/hegive some advices to dentists about modifyingtheir advertisement. However, a careful analysis of this argument will revealhow groundless the conclusion is.
To begin with, the author's conclusion isbase on a statistics result; however, the author may omit some alternatives tothis phenomenon. According to another research result, it holds male are likelyto have dental problems and other diseases for their unhealthy lifestyle, such as excessive and uncontrolled smoking, eating or drinking. Thus, if in this argument, the more male subjects in itsstatistics, the less reliable the study's result. Moreover, the author assumesmen have more painful dental treatment experience than women. However, it is ironical that if male patients areunconscious during dental work done, those conscious female patents should bemore distressed than male.
In addition, if the author's conclusion isacceptable, it is not necessary to modify the advertisement. Firstly, for mostpatients, they do not have any experience about dental disease; therefore, theyare possibly careless about neither the anesthetic techniques nor the skill of dentists' staff butfocus on some economic factors, like the treatment fees and bill. Second, Evenif patients will choose dentist when they have some dental diseases, the besttarget for dentist to attract should be female rather than male, for byimproving their skill and equipment, female are more likely to suffer morelitter pain.
In conclusion, before any final decisionsare made about should dentists change their advertise, the author shouldprovide more evidence than men are suffer more pain than women about havingdental work done. To strengthen the argument, the author should have to confirmthat patients’ choice is mainly relying on advertisements. |
