（09.02.27NA）Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A job with more vacation time but a low salary is better than a job with a high salary but less vacation time.

When asked about what kinds of jobs do people demand, almost all human beings say that they want a high salary and more vacation time job. However, as we all know, it is impossible for the majority. As a result, we must make a significant resolution on whether we choose a job with more vacation time but a low salary or a job with a high salary but less vacation time. To me, I feel that it depends on the age of the person.

For younger people, who have endless energy, positive mentalities and strong bodies just like me, jobs with high salary but less vacation time will suit them. The young need to pay loads of money for their houses, spend their money on their interests, or save some money for their future, but the fact is that most of young people do not have so much money. Thus, young should earn money as much as they can. After all, they do not have things such as kids or illnesses to worry about. The harder you work in your younger age, the more money you will get. Nobody will deny that people can easily to do what they are fond of as well as be happy with the money they earn.

But for elder people, jobs with more vacation time but a low salary may be a better choice. First, the bodies will not be as strong as healthy. They have to care for their bodies and give their bodies more time to relax. In addition, the older already have financial bases. Money is not what they are worried about most. On the contrary, money may be not as important as their families, interests or rest time for them. Take my parents, who are both merchants doing business in our city, as an example. They have worked really hard and hardly ever had vacation time, even though they already had enough money. They both took ill and, the illness has changed their lifestyles. They reduced their working time and therefore their income reduced, too. Nevertheless, not only do they feel ill like before, but they are also much happier.

In conclusion, people of different ages are eager for different things, therefore people should choose different kinds of jobs as they grow older. Nobody can define one job that they will do throughout their whole lifetime.

(09.05.30NA) Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Younger school children (age five to ten) should be required to study art and music in addition to math, science, history and language.



It has long been considered right and proper that children are the future of the whole world. As a result, what should our young children study becomes one of the universal issues that causes increasing concern. As a teenager that had experienced childhood, I believe that younger school children should be required to study art and music in addition to math, science, history and language.

First and foremost, to learn all kinds of subjects can help students increasing their knowledge of this world. Because of their widespread knowledge, they can easily find the subjects that they real like to study. Thus, they will not be perplexed just because they do not have any part that they are good at and fond of when they are choosing jobs. Take history, one subject of the subjects that I have minded above, as an example. If children did not learn it, they will not know what had happened, what is happening, and what will be happened in this colorful but complicated world. It is natural to be imagining that they will not know how to build as well as change the world.

Another positive influence by studying such subjects is that it can nurture young children's skills of taste beauty. In our daily life, there may appear such an occasion when somebody cannot understand what we really want to show in a painting or a song with confusing. It is not because these kinds of people are ignorant or something but they do not have the skill of taste beauty. If these people have taken the lesson like music or art in their childhood, however, they will not be so embarrassed.

In addition, people can make tons of friends that have the same interests with them by studying these subjects. From my point of view, friendship is one of the most significant relationships in the whole life. If all kinds of friends in diverse fields around us, it will be possible to do things that are impossible for ourselves. And of course, friends will invite loads of happiness to us.

In conclusion, to study art and music in addition to math, science, history and language is considerably necessary for the young school children. They will be benefited from learning these subjects though it may take them a lot of free time.

In general, the reading and the lecture are both talking about whether it is good to sold fossils to ownership. The author of the reading passage feels that it will decline the development of fossils. On the contrary the listening material is convinced that selling fossils is not a bad action.

The reading material first point out that the fossils are owned by the minority and the public cannot view them. As a result, people will lose the interests of fossils. However, the professor motioned that more fossils will be display in the school or library to public by commercial fossils collectors.

In addition, contrary to the belief in the passage that scientists and university professors cannot pay such a large number of money to buy the fossils and loss the opportunities to study rare fossils; the speaker says that scientists will identify the fossils first after the commercial fossils collectors unearth them. So scientists will not miss any fossil.

Finally, the writing stated that the commercial fossils collectors will destroy the valuable fossils. While the professor claimed that fossil owners discover more fossils for scientists to study. If there was no commercial fossils collectors, tons of rare fossils will not be found by scientists and university professors.

In general, the reading and the lecture are both talking about the whether the salvage logging has benefits to the forest and the economy or not. The author of the reading passage feels that it is good to the forest and the economy. On the country, the listening material is convinced that salvage logging is not a reasonable way for both the forest and the economy.

The reading material first point out that salvage logging can make more room to help forest recovering faster. However, the professor mentions that cleaning up the damages trees will make other trees’ growing term getting longer, and dead trees are really necessary for the growth of new plants.

In addition, contrary to the belief in the passage that salvage logging can help cleaning up the dangerous insects; the speaker says that the insects that are good for the forest and some birds will also be cleaned up by removing the dead trees. She also mentioned that the disadvantages made by people are much more than bad insects.

Finally, the writing stated that dead trees can be used in industry and salvage logging will increases the number of workers. Therefore the economy of that area will be developed. While the professor claimed that doing these things will be very expensive. Not only dose transporting the trees takes loads of money, but the increasing workers also need tons of money to training and paying.

It is a traditional practice for parents in China to determine their children’s future for them. Currently, the issue of whether parents should influence their children’s decisions has been concerned by people in growing numbers. As a child of the parents who hardly ever meddle in my resolutions, I believe that parents should allow children to make their own choices rather than determine their children’s future for them.

First and foremost, the things that children chose are defiantly what they are fond of. No one can deny that people can do better and put their heart in it when they are doing the things they prefer, not excepting the children. Take my little brother as an example. Although he even cannot sit in the chair and do homework for 30 minutes, he can plays the violin more than 3 hours each day as well as plays pretty well just because he is fond of violin. A s an old sating tells that interest is the drive source of motive.

Do what children like, however, is but one of the benefits that the kids who determine their things themselves have. Another thing is they will have a pretty well planning skill. When they are thinking about what to do, they will think about how the things will be happened and how the people around them feel. They will absolutely decide almost all the things, and therefore, their planning skills will improve gently. Many people may asks, “Is there anything changed after people have a planning skill?” I think the answer is yes. If one knows how to plan his life, he will not be at a loss of what to do and make loads of detours.

In addition, although children may make some mistakes when they decide their future, they will learn how to face the challenge made by them. And of course the mistakes will nurture their sense of responsibility. When they are force to be responsible for what they had done, they will think about which step they did wrong and they will not do that again because they have caught hell from the miss.

From the information above, we can safety arrive at the conclusion that parents should allow their kids to decide their future by themselves. After all, parents cannot help their children to live their lives, sooner or later children have to determine their lives alone.

In general, the reading passage and the lecture are both talking about the problem of overpopulation cane toads in Australia. The author of the reading feels that there are some measures to deal with this issue. On the contrary, the listening material is convinced that the three ways that the writing stated have less effect to the problem.

The reading material first points that build a national fence is a way to handle the overpopulation toads. However the professor mentions that although the fence could stop a number of toads, it cannot stop the young toads and toad eggs which are carried to the other side of the fence by the river or the stream. As a result, the population of the toads on the other side of the fence will increases without limited, and the method is likely to have no effective.

In addition contrary to the belief in the passage that let citizens help the government to kill the toads can deal the issue; the speaker says that the untrained volunteers will not only kill the cane toads, but also destroy other species like the Australia native frogs. That will cause many animals tend to be endangered.

Finally, the writing stated that create a disease-causing virus to limited the population of cane toads is also a good measure to solute the problem. While the professor claimed that if the government develops the virus, the toads will move to other continents. The toad populations in other lands will rise dramatically as well as harm the eco-system.
