The following recommendation was made by the Human Resources Manager to the board of directors of the Fancy Toy Company.


"In the last three quarters of this year, under the leadership of our president, Pat Salvo, our profits have fallen considerably. Thus, we should ask for her resignation in return for a generous severance package. In Pat's place, we should appoint Rosa Winnings. Rosa is currently president of Starlight Jewelry, a company whose profits have increased dramatically over the past several years. Although we will have to pay Rosa twice the salary that Pat has been receiving, it will be well worth it because we can soon expect our profits to increase considerably."



In the article, the manager makes the statement that if Rosa takes the place of Pat, profit will increase a lot. Follow the train of thoughts, we find a lot of logic flaws, after we appoint these flaws, you will know that manager’s conclusion is naïve.

On one hand, we cannot agree with the proposition that Pat should be asked for the resignation, because there are no details or facts can tell every body that Pat is not suitable for this position. Let us carefully analysis the recommendation, ‘under the leadership of Pat profit have fallen’ leads to an unspeakable statement ‘there must be something wrong with Pat’, according to the next sentence ‘she should resign’. This reasoning is illogical: result is decrease, and reason must be one of factors which have something to do with profits, maybe the Pat, maybe the manage group, may be the market. Do you feel uncomfortable and unreasonable if someone put all the reason on your side, even though we’ve known to take the blame? Even speak, Pat was not good enough, does it necessary to replace her? For a person, we can give him or her one or two chance even if he or she made the mistakes. For a project, changing the leader always means stopping the project. No matter for what, replacing is not right.

On the other hand, we need to make a think about other part of the recommendation in which writes something about Rosa. Does ‘Starlight Jewelry’s profits increased over the past several years’ means company’s leader is good enough? It’s another logic flaw we have shown to you. This good result can not be the result only caused by leader, just like decreasing cannot caused only by Pat, there must be other factors such like manage group, market. Besides, we can not compare a jewelry company with the toy company, there are so many differences that we can not take what we want from the survey. In another word, two companies are not comparable because Rose (jewelry company leader) may not suitable for this company even if she is good enough. Sorry to human resources manage.


What’s more, replacing cannot definitely lead to the increasing of the profitability. Twice salary means how many dollars? What if they are more that Rose, who can make more money than Pat, even speak, can make? If then, replacing is not profitable.



In sum, manager naively considered that the factor of increasing profitability is leader, did not show the details about salary. All of these lead to the wrong decision.

文章整体逻辑不错,但字数少了点。
另外有些话个人还是严谨的说为好。像we find a lot of logic flaws, after we appoint these flaws, you will know that manager’s conclusion is doughtful
可以说A lot of logical flaws inside , which deeply undermine the credibility of the conclusion the manager thoughtlessly draws,
will be analyzed then.
