I agree with the speaker that the revitalization through new leadership can be beneficiary to professions of human endeavor, for replacement of a new leader in the office may bring new blood to enterprise and easily revolute out of frameworks in the field. Nevertheless, ignorance of momentous influence of stable long-term implement proposed by a leader is also not negligible; otherwise, the complex changeable position may only result more complicated turbulence and riots within the field.
Newly appointed leaders are earnest of pursuing achievement so that he can earn belief of qualification for being a leader and a sound prestige among his subordinates, which often results in revolution or reform of field-whether is education, business, or any other areas of human endeavor. Compared with the experienced leaders who have been in office for years, the news may behave more aggressive ambition of their future enterprise, although the experienced ones may be more mature in playing potential rules and regulations. However, people and business need someone new and different who can break the rules or create new strategy without any restriction of framework to bring change to them, especially in the fierce competition and changing world with rapid pace. During president campaign, Obama was elected with his slogan "we need change" and theoretically earned more votes than Hilary and McCain, both of which are experienced candidates in politician. After all economy crisis informed people of the wrong economic policy made by previous government, and only revolution of a new economy strategy can hopefully save U.S.A.
The education of the society tends to pore such conception in every one's mind that anything new and original can replace the old as well as anything creative is better than experienced stereotypes. Nevertheless, it might overlook the possibility that too frequent changes may result in disorder and anxiety. Perhaps it may requires a long-may be 10-15years-to judge its policy is influential, while the position is quickly replaced with other new face in 5 years. Such policies as reform of education, institution or Medicare, so complex and giant-involved they are to implement that we can rarely witness its consequence within short-term. And with the retirement of the leader who proposed reforms, new leaders in the position may refuse to continue and enforce another fresh policy. In this case, may be too much emphasis on new and revitalization is a wrong decision among society.
A longer tenure or life long tenures, sometimes, is required in some area so that the person can free from worrying about his survival and stand pressure and specialize in devoting himself to further study of his chosen field. It is well-known that the lifetime tenure policy in Supreme Court in American establishes a nonpartisan institution to serve a long time to the public. Because it brings impartiality and freedom from political pressure and thus ensures its independence and permanence. Another perfect example of lifelong tenure is in academic field. Professors of either field can well focus on their own works rather than worrying of out of works because of the merit brought by lifelong tenure. And we cannot suppose the all the members of government institutions have the replacement every five years, for the entire change may bring mess in society.
In sum, although revitalization with new face can make enterprise hopeful to face the change in the future, more focus should be placed on a long-term and stable environment of leadership. Otherwise, it will suffer from several unexpected disturbance whether it is in field of business, politics, or academics. |
