Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is more important for students to understand ideas and concepts than to learn facts. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. (02/14/07; 02/24/07;12/15/07)

Nowadays a great number of students attend to live under the illusion that ideas and concepts are the whole world due to the prevalent teaching way of no specific illustration and examples. However, from where I stand, I demonstrate that facts are of much more importance than that of concepts as the following reasons.

It comes as no surprise that facts, concrete and detailed, are more easily for students to grasp and digest. Facts can be full of funny stories instead of abstract ideas what concepts are. A particular case in point is politic, which was so difficult for me to understand when I was in junior school. Those words like substance were nightmares for me. They were far beyond my understanding even after I had read my book thousands of times. However, a miracle happened right after a politic class. My teacher used a plenty of specific examples to explain those complex concepts which definitely helped me a lot and cultivated my interest on politic as well.

In addition, it is facts that are quite persuasive and reasonable. Actually, examples are usually used by us to clarify ourselves, which could powerfully evident the grandness of facts. As an old saying goes, actions speak louder than words. When it comes to facts, I would like to change it into—facts speaker louder than concepts. Thanks to facts’ authenticity, they make sense as soon as they are presented. For example, lawyers can not use concepts to justify for plaintiffs or defendants. Instead, it would be a solid evidence for judgers to accept when facts are used. According to this, I believe that students, especially those majored in law, should learn more about facts.

Admittedly, facts and concepts show laws of nature and society at the same time. However, owing to concrete exemplification, facts become a critical access to the hall of truth.

In short, I can safely make the conclusion that it is more crucial for students to learn facts than to learn concepts.

A particular case in point is politic, which was so difficult for me to understand when I was in junior school(was just a junior in school). Those words like substance (这里的substance 要加引号吧,列举的是一个名词,而且,觉得这个例子老美也许明白不了,除非叙述的再详细一些,讲完整)were nightmares for me.

Actually, examples are usually used by us to clarify ourselves(?本句什么意思?), which could powerfully evident the grandness of facts. As an old saying goes, actions speak louder than words. When it comes to facts, I would like to change it into—facts speaker louder than concepts. Thanks to facts’ authenticity(可以这样表达吗?), they make sense as soon as they are presented. For example, lawyers can not use concepts to justify for plaintiffs or defendants. Instead, it would be a solid evidence for judgers to accept when facts are used. According to this, I believe that students, especially those majored in law, should learn more about facts(这里的例子很好,但觉得LZ没有充分展开)

1 lz的词汇量蛮大的,但句型应该再多变一点。
2 例证没有充分展开,感觉文章不饱满。每个论点都要有例子,每个例子都要有细节。
