issue130: how children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.
What the speaker claims involves two aspects: first, the destiny of society hinges on the the extent to which children are socialized; second, the approach of fostering children has not been mastered. I find the two aspects specious.
Concerning the first aspect that the society's destiny depends on how children are socialized, I concede that children's healthy socialization paves way for developing the adaptive ability, effective communication, harmonious cooperation, all of which serves as the fundamental capacity in their future social life.
What children have learned in team work, involves negotiation, cooperation, asserting themselves in a respectful manner, with the benefit of which they would grow into good citizens and effective leaders. Conversely, supposing that a child is not allowed the adequate opportunities for the healthy interaction with peers, in all likelihood the child will grow into a lonely and inadaptable person. Unfortunately, the ability of whom to survive in the real-world amounts to little let alone the contribution to the society. Accordingly, the influence of healthy socialization of children plays a significant role in social development.
However, the extent of socialization of children is neither the only nor the most important factor for social advancement, which bases on the science and technology development. Consider, for example, certain prominent scientists, the success of who lies in the other virtues rather than socialization, who have contributed profoundly to a better society. The preeminent scientist Archimedes's contributions rose from his early family education, voracious appetite for knowledge, in spite of his proper socialization to discuss and communicate with other scientist in that days. French mathematician and physical scientist Descartes, said "I think, therefore I am", whose contributions sprang from his passion for critical thinking and reasoning.
Turn to the second aspect, although we have not learned the best way to nurture the children, the method of education or raising children who can help bring about a better society has been exploring, in the process of which children develop well-rounded and the society become better off, as illustrated by a more civilized, democratic, free society in lovely and violent contrast with the uncivilized, despotic, restrained one. All the achievements in contemporary world, a better society, are created by the children of most recent half-century.
From what have been discussed above, we can arrive at a conclusion that the destiny of society depends on not only how children are socialized but also the some other factor-such as superior education, passion for knowledge, critical thinking and so on. And today's society, a civilized, free, democratic one, demonstrate the way of rising children in most recent half-century effective and reasonable.
