The arts (painting, music, literature, etc.) reveal otherwise hidden ideas and impulses of a society

The speaker asserts that arts including painting, literature, architecture, music and so on reveal the ideas and impulses hidden in the society. I fundamentally agree with speaker. However, while some arts can reveal hidden ideas and impulses, some cannot. It is worthwhile to think more of other aspects of arts and the relationship between arts and society.
It is more often than not, to sense certain idea hidden in the society, when appreciating a piece of art. This is always the case to the extent under the rules of an autocratic government or in a controversial society in ancient time, when people gifted with new and creative mind or revolutionaries against the people in the position of power are supposed to be persecuted. The best way to spread their mind and thoughts was to put them in arts, something that can indirectly express their feelings. This phenomenon has become so popular from generation to another that arts even has become a symbol of reflecting the hidden ideas that cannot be exposed to society. Through arts, people can freely comment the flaws of society; through arts, those with common revolutionary goals gather together; through arts, the man with advanced ideas can spread sense to people and expose the evil and repulsive aspects of society. Art is no doubt a transmitter carrying hidden thoughts and mind invisible in society.
While arts become to be regarded as communicating tools for revolutionaries to
strike the society or to put forward the history of a society, arts can also reveal something apparently visible in the society. It is impossible to find anyone who can resist any social influence on him. So does every artist who shows their observation and description of the world in arts of their own. With the influence of technology, social events, popular trends, there deeply rooted with distinguished symbolic character of the
contemporaries in arts of different time. Thus arts can also be a symbol of reflection of a society, since we can tell different arts of various ages apart by just analyzing the distinct character shown in the arts. For example, we can distinguish which period of time the photographs were taken depending on the materials in the photos and analysis of the color pixels which show photographic techniques at that time.
The artists love arts with zest because of arts can also be, if created perfectly, a carrier of expressing personal unique feelings. Therefore, when art is regarded to express the emotion like love, happiness, sorrow, or hate, it has no relationship to impulses of a society, but subjective personal experience. Common sense tells me no matter what kind of society people live in, they share the same emotion and no evidence show development of people's emotion until now. It only results in similar feelings and emotion in different arts of different people in varied time. In this case, arts sometimes can be just the carrier of personal feelings, with no relations to society.
In sum, some arts can reveal the hidden ideas and impulses of a society, while some other arts can be reflections of the world at that time and some arts were just created on the intention of expressing unique emotions of personal experience, and there's may be more functions of arts I cannot adequately address here. After all, it is up to human being to create art for whatever he wants to express.
