How to judge students' performance and give award is a prevalent topic undergoing serious debate currently. Someone advocate that grades inspire students to learn that should be considered as the criteria to award students. After pondering several aspects, I totally disagree with such statement and the conspicuous reasons and instances go as follows.

For one thing, too much emphasize on grades can bring some untoward outcomes. It is quite common that students cheat on exams, behave   dishonesty to gain teacher's recognition, and even fight between classmates. All of those unhealthy actions are resulted from taking too much attention on grades. Examples as such are numerous. Every final exam my roommates are used to preparing some notes to cheat. And even worse, some students usually receive envious view and isolation from others because of the high scores. The seemingly accurate method to award students, actually is harmful for their future development. Therefore, sometimes overextended the importance of grades is counterproductive.

Furthermore, if students are driven to achieve high grades at school, probably they may ignore the practical experience learning. Under the grades motivation, most students are inclined to study the academic books and paid little sense on the society. In order to get high scores on exams, they usually study day and night. Lack of communication with reality those high-grade students are hard to adapt to job market. A case in point is that Jerry, a friend of mine, owns excellent performance on his college curriculums, but he did not attend any campus activities and practical learning groups during the four years life. And when he came to the interview to apply for a position on economics, the manager directly refused him and said we need an employee to handle practical problems  not a high-score person. In short, it is not wise to give prize according the grades.


we have to admit that grades is feasible that can easily be regarded as the achievement of students and has been acting successfully as the judgement for years. However, such teaching system shows highly contradiction with modern education that will die out gradually .


In brief, after the forgoing discussion, though considerable benefits of evaluating students' on grades it can not compete with its potential drawbacks. Thus I am convincing that school should not take the grades to give award for students.

Test1 - Integrated Writing 1

The lecture challenges the view that Anasazi's abrupt vanish is due to a serious summer drought mainly from three perspectives.

First, the lecture points out that the drought actually is not as severe as people contemplate.
Although it is claimed that the drought wiped out most areas of the world.
However, the presence of some ancient trees indeed reflects that the drought is far from the degree to kill all the creatures in this area.
Since the trees in this area can self-sustain during the drought, it is doubtful that as a group of highly intelligent human beings, Anasazi cannot survive and easily withdraw from this difficult situation.

Second, the lecture also questions the point of view that the irrigation system indicates that Anasazi had suffered for drought for a long time and finally had to give up their habitats.
In the contrary, the lecture believes that this is an indirect evidence to prove that Anasazi had fully recognized their problems and therefore exerted a lot of efforts to adapt this situation.

Finally, the lecture also casts doubt on the hypothesis that the over-population made the whole situation worse for the Anasazi. The lecture holds the view that people shall study from a more comprehensive perspective to explore the sudden appearance of Anasazi from invasion of other tribes, diseases, etc.
The simple conclusion of the summer drought seems to be kind of arbitrary without sounding supports.

Given the development of modern technologies, nowadays students are really armed with dozens of cutting-edge equipments helping them to learn knowledge, including the multi-media systems, the internet, etc.
Not like their previous generation, they do not rely on books as their sole source to gain information. However, it is doubtful that using modern technologies virtually helps students to learn more or learn in a faster way.


First, the various sources where information is presented, on the one hand, make the students receive knowledge in different methods and media forms.
However, it does not mean that students can accept more information than via this "information flood". Actually, such information flood will naturally increase the burden of the students as they need to deal with the issues on how to select and absorb necessary information from what they received.
Interestingly, you can always observe a certain type of students who have incredible enthusiasm to collect different information related what the professor taught at the class.
However, it appears that the final grades of these students are not proportionate to their efforts spending for researching enormous information as they just achieved an average level grade.
What lead to such unpromising ending regardless of their enormous efforts?
From my observation, these students spent too much time in collecting data and therefore lost themselves in such an information ocean.

Second, modern technologies also distract our attention from learning itself.
We understand that more and more modern learning equipments advertise their appealing technique for learners, like a learner-friendly interface or various leaning tools.
However, the over-fancy technologies may neglect the core need of students i.e. how to effectively and efficiently learn information and draw their attention to the technology itself rather than the knowledge to be presented through such media.
For instance, some students may be attracted by some mini-games provided in some learning tools and fails to concentrate on the content to be learned.

Finally, some modern technologies themselves are too complicated for the students to follow.  In fact, students need to spend a plenty of time on learning how to use these technologies.  Accordingly, we need to consider the real effect the modern technologies bring to us in learning information.
As far as I see, whether the modern technologies can help us learn more or learn efficiently is still questionable as we will face so many negatives alongside with the application of these modern technologies

renewable enegery(sun, wind,..)will soon replace fossil fuel (gas, oil, coal), agree or disagree? /T~

Facing the severe shortage of natural resources, someone point out that the renewable energy, like wind and sun, will soon take place the fuel to meet our needs. However, such statement contrary to my view and I will list my reasons below.

For one thing, the decisive factor I want to present is that those renewable energy are limited by its geological sites. The wind or sun, which can be converted to electricity to facilitate our life is most relying on its location.  Only in those areas where abound with wind or sun energy can we make full use of them. Take our country for instance, most places in the west are poor in sunshine.  Yaan, a city of Sichuan province, has 268 rainy days on average every year. People living in there, are difficult to grow rice and crops due to lack of sun.  Similarly,  the windy areas mostly sited in parts of our land. Thus, inproportional coverage of the wind and sun, it actually not advisable to replace fuel by those renewable resources.


Another reason for my propensity is reinforced by the fact that nowadays' technology is hardly to create large quantities energy to replace the fuel. The total number of the energy we need daily is tremendous. though there are some wind or sun energy we can use, such quantity is so small to meet our whole country's requirement. According to a scientific report ,indicates that we can only use 15% of the wind power to generate electricity. The technology of this field requires urgently to be advanced to fully use those natural resources. Thus under the present efficiency of energy converting. It is superficial to conclude that the our renewable resources will  soon act as a replacement of the fuel.


For sure, the renewable resources are more welcome and preferable in comparison to fuel. And attributing to the astonishing fast development of our technology, it is no doubt that someday we can totally depend on the energy from sun or wind. It should be noted, however, that there are many obstacles waiting us to overcome. The claim that the replacement of fuel by renewable energy will come to us soon is relatively impossible.

In brief, after the forgoing discussion, we all surely clear that it is not easy to replace the fuel by renewable resources based on the truth that the current technology's limitation and the different locations of different sites.

people today spend too much time on their enjoyment --waht  they like to do --rather than what they should do? 2008.3.8
Accompanied by the astonishing advancement of technology and society, the pace of our life also speeds up. Recently, whether people are likely to take much time on their enjoyment things and pay little attention on what they should do is a prevalent discussion. After pondering several aspects. I approve of this idea and I will list my reasons below.

For one thing, nowadays' students spend much time on sports or playing computer games rather than study. Today, the sports facilities in school are readily available and students have lots of leisure time that they can schedule. Under this situation, most students choose to do sports in the school yard including basketball, football, Pinpon and the like. Alternatively, there are someone will appeal to the internet and being addicted on the computer games in the end. A persuasive instance for this phenomenon is about my roommate, jerry, virtually spends eight hours on computer games and little time is distributed to learn. This similar examples are numerous in nowadays school, specially obvious on college campus.  


Another reason of my propensity is that most adults paying less attention on work compared to recreation or family chores. It is widely acknowledged that work is the most important responsibility for people. However, most young generations have plentiful recreations in life. And topics of their talking are mainly about where to go this weekend, how to find the most amazing restaurant, how to kill the leisure time and seldom related to their work. Moreover, many adults have to care children and family. They need time to do house work and take the children to school and then pick them back. So the time and notice spent on their primary work are rare.


For sure, we have to admit that there are many students in school and workers at office who work hard on their job. But the number appears pale in comparison to those who care more on their enjoyable things.


In conclusion, after forgoing discussion. we can come to a draw that people living in the modern society are likely to show lavish  care on their enjoyable matters rather than those work what they are supposed to do.

Is it more important to use land for human use such as farming, industry than to save for endangered animals.3.18

With the burgeoning of science and technology, the relationship between human beings and animal is harsh nowadays. Whether we should use the land for human development or save it for endangered animals is a prevalent topic undergoing serious debate. From the point of my view, I think it is urgent for people to save land for endangered animals rather than for industry or farming use.

To begin with, if endangered animals are still being compelled to leave their homeland, they will die out as soon as possible. As it known to all, animals usually gathered together living in certain places. If those areas encroached by human, they have no habitats to search food and reproduce and finally will come to extinct. A report of the United Nations Environment Program indicates that an entire species of animal or plant life goes extinct every 20 minutes, and there will be ten to thirty kinds of species which related to this one would doubtless suffer serious impact. Thus if we not take immediate solutions to prevent this trend, our ecosystem will get devastating punch. Such examples are numerous like the red-crowned crane, the white-flag dolphin, the white rhinoceros and so forth. In short, it goes beyond doubt that we should use land for endangered animals.

Another factor of my propensity lies in the fact that  more factories and farms means greater pollutions. Farms mostly rely on pesticide to improve productivity, those notorious chemicals will not only pollute our ecological environment but also can cause illness. Similarly, the waste and emissions from factories will destroy our living environment. Take the air pollution of the London frog of December of 1952 as an example. This four-day fog caused at least 4.000 deaths and much illness; it therefore ranks as the most disastrous event of its kind known to have occurred anywhere in the world. And the main reason for this disaster is the large amounts of sulphur dioxide exhausted from factories.   In order to save ourselves and regain an comfortable environment. It is not wise to turn land into farms and factories.

For sure, we have to admit that factory can boast our economy and improve our living condition. And farms can produce more food and fruit for us. It is should be noted, however, we can never imagine the outcome if animals disappear on earth. So the advantages can not compete with the harmony environment where both human beings and animal living together.

In brief, after the forgoing discussion, we can come to a drawing that we should try our best to save land for endangered animals.

family influence children most?

NO matter how large or small the family is,  each and every person is influenced greatly by the family. When it comes to the issue that whether the family has a most influence on us, as for me,  I totally approve of this view and the conspicuous reasons and instances go as follows.

Foremost,the way in which we are raised truly can determine the way that we live our lives as adults.  Boys and girls watch their parents very closely when they are growing up .  They learn how they are supposed to act as an adult. For instance, Young girls watch their mothers, see how to interact with men, and how they are supposed to treat their own children. If they see someone behaving in a responsible, stronger manner, they will learn those behaviors. If they see a mother who is afraid of her husband or who puts his needs above her children, they learn a sense of unimportance and feeling insignificant. Those influence can impact your personality as you grow older, through adolescence and young adulthood, which contributes most to whom you become.

Furthermore, families are the groundwork of society. Everything a child learns is developed  within the first seveal years.  If there was not family to set this groundwork, no family to show the child and how to function in society.......


However, the child is  not only effected by the good things of a family, but also of the difficult, the anger, and sometimes the hurt of a family. Maybe some parents have a history of mental illness, alcoholism,  or an addcition to work, sex, or drugs. Toddlers living in such sort of family will suffer vicious misguiding.

In brief, from the previous discussion, family plays an indispensible role to guide us how to act as an adult and to function as a society to teach us, and also family may mislead us. Thus, I am convincing that family influence people most.

Agree or disagree, Technology cause children show less creative than they were in past.

Technology has turned our life into a highly efficient and sophisticated state. Accompanied by the considerable benefits and conveniences of the technology bringing to modern society, someone begin to question that whether the technology has resulted less creative on children compared to those in the past. As for me, I totally disagree with such view with the following reasons.

To begin with, technology opens up the wide window for children to learn the world and broaden their horizons. As it known to all, the more one knows the higher possibility he can success. The technology, especially the internet presents tremendous information on-line, can make children more familiar with society and life which would doubtless bring numerous new ideas. So acquainted with plentiful knowledge, children are more active in free thinking and easy to invent new things. A case in point is that my cousine, Ernie, created a plane model last month. And his spirit came from a video on the internet. most obviously ,because of the advent of internet, children can become more and more creative than before.


Another essential factor for my propensity lies in the fact that technology provides more opportunities and platforms for children. In school, the advanced technology contributes to the vast use of modern  teaching resources, which are helpful to increase students' creativity. Because lots of experiments can be done on the computer, students are more free to experiment their thoughts. In contrast, students of last century had little chance to practice their ideas in school.Moreover, the internet enable students to display their creations or inventions on-line, they may receive useful suggestions and positive criticisms to enrich their experiences, and the next time they can perform better on their inventions.

For those chances and conditions rose from the technology, children’s creativity increase dramatically .

However, as everything is a double-edged sword, compelling those advantages of technology, it can also cause some negative influences on children. One of the drawbacks concerns how to duly use it. For students are prone to be obsessed in computer games, which both mentally and physically harmful for children's development. So parents are responsible to guide the young children to utilize the technology.


In conclusion, from the previous discussion, technology provides more information and platforms for children that will actually enhance the ability of creativity. Thus I am convincing that children shows more creative than before due to the technology.

Whether the government should invest more money on arts than athletics is a prevalent topic undergoing constant debate. From my point of view, I am in favor that sports investment has more value on common citizens that should be spent more money and attention.

To begin with, money spent on athletics would make more people participate in sports. Modern people, under severe pressure from various aspects, seldom exercise. And most people's health conditions are inferior than before. According to a survey indicates that there are 75% of urban citizens suffering sub-health problems, especially in major cities these figures continues to grow. The obvious reason of people exercise less is that the facilities usually distant from their work place or rare in their communities which can hardly meet the needs. While if more money invested on the sports facilities, the convenience of taking exercise would attract people pay more attention on health issue. Everyone should be sure that health is above wealth, only in a fit condition can we make contributions to society. So it is wise to spend more money on athletics.

Another equally important factor for my propensity lies in the fact that athletics provides platform to display culture. Olympic games as a universal competition appealing to worldwide people to take part in. And participating in this sports feast can not only improve athlete's level but also a way to display cultures and customs to the world. For sports is a communication medium in spites of different languages and nationalities. Take the NBA, a hot sports program of the world, as an example, nearly every basketball fan is unwilling to miss it. From the program, foreign audience can learn lots of American customs and cultures, like people's attitudes toward success or failure, team spirit, perseverance, courage and so forth. Contributing to the NBA, America becomes increasingly charming.

Admittedly,  art is indispensible in our life which can bring so much enjoyment and enhance our appreciation of aesthetic, however, sometimes art only caters to relatively small group of people for its natural characteristic. In contrast, athletics is more popular. So I believe athletics has more real values.

In conclusion, from the previous discussion, though considerable benefits of art, it can never compete with athletics. For athletics can spur more people participate in physical exercise and increase the communication between different cultures. Thus I am convincing that government should spend more money in support of athletics rather than art.

From the perspective of my view, I contend that spending time playing computer games is not always a waste of time. In contrast, there are some beneficial aspects. So I think children should not be prevented playing computer games with following reasons.

To begin with, playing computer games are helpful in children's education. It is widely acknowledged that long-time watching screen would destroy our eyesight dramatically, but recent research indicates that playing computer games can improve eyesight. A person's night-eye vision gets better after playing electronic action games. Moreover, a report published in the latest issue of Heath Science claims that computer games can train brain to enhance contrast sensitivity and reflections which are beneficial for children's logical capability development. And it is quite common in reality that those kids who are like to play computer games usually perform better on math or physics. In short, computer games has many advantages that we often ignore.

Another essential factor accounting for my propensity lies in the fact that if parents compel students away from computer games, there some undesirable outcomes might emerge. Children are too young to fully analyze situations. And most of them are rebellious. In that case, if they are deprived the rights of their favorites, they may behave abnormally that would doubtless influence their psychological development in the end. One persuasive instance I want to illustrate is my cousin, Ernie, who are crazy about computer games. But his parents do not allow him to get any access to computers. Ironically, Ernie spends more time than before on computer games in Net bar, resulting in sharp degradation on study. Parents sometimes should take children as free man not children. Although they are young, they have their ideas. Whether they are wrong or not, parents should respect their ideas. If they are truly wrong, parents should have patience and make them realize their mistakes slowly. If not, the results may be untoward.


As everything is a double-edged sword, computer games indeed have some bad effects. One of the drawbacks is that young children are prone to be addicted to it, and that have both mental and physical harmful impacts. So it is crucial to properly hand computer games otherwise it way destroy children’s  regular life and produce profound serious results.

In brief, after the pervious discussion, though the considerable bad effects of computer games, those disadvantages appear pale when we take the potential benefits into account. So it is not wise to prohibit children playing computer games.

Both heath and environment are essential for our human beings. Currently, there is an increasing number of people begin to argue that improving health care is more important than spending money  supporting  environment regulation. As for me, I am totally disagree with such statement with following instances and reasons.

The first aspect for why I advocate environment should be paid more attention comes from the fact that, our environment is facing serious damage and immediate solutions urgently need. As it quite evident that over-deforestation resulted severe water and soil loss, a great deal of Freon brought numerous ozone hole, and industry pollution caused lots of diseases and animal extinction. Even worse, those situations are still going on and spreading over our planet. If we continue to ignore those environmental issues, we may loss our habitat and finally disappear just like lots of animals and plants which are already extinct contributes to the tough environment. So it is more advisable for our government allocate more money on environment disposal.


Another essential factor accounting for my propensity lies in the fact that health care and environment problem are tightly related to each other. In other words, they influence each other to a large extent. Environmental issues can easily cause health problems, which sometimes are horrible as disasters. Examples as such are countless, one of the major instances is the London photochemical frog in 1952, the four-days frog caused at least 4,000 deaths and illnesses, which therefore ranks as the most disastrous event of this kind known to have occured in the world. And the main reason of this photochemical frog is environment pollution arose from huge emissions of Carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide. Similarly, the waste from factories or our living rubbish which directly plunged into river or sea can bring  lots of diseases. In short, considering the relationship between health care and environment, we should first care our environment.

In brief, after previous discussion, because environmental issues are so severe today and the obvious relationship between health care and environment. I am convincing that environmental problems require and should be gave most concern.
