     The speaker asserts that there is no possibility to strike the balance between the tradition and modernization and we must choose one of them.I concede that there do exist gap between tradition and modernization. Nevertheless, the point is that the gap is not insuperable.
     Tradition represents the idea of the people in the old time. Corresponding to it, today's popular ideas compose the core of the modernization. We should accept the fact that the values in different time vary a lot. For instance, people in the history taked the discrimination of the sex and the race for granted. However,the epidemic value today is the equaltiy of the human being regardless of the sex and the race. The democratic idea in old China is regarded as the heterodox. Most people held the belief that there should be a sovereign who had the absolute power and they laid emphasis on the loyalty to the emperor. As the history developing to the present, the democracy and the restrict of the power have been the universal value in the modern Chinese.
     Admittedly,there really are difference between the tradition and the modernization which is we shouldn't ignore; yet the existence of the difference is not equal to the incompatability of the tradition and modernization.
     The modernization can inherit from the tradition. One representative example of it is that we still celebrate the festivals dating back to long long time ago. The Spring Festival in China and the Thanksgiving Day in America are the typical festivals celebrated by both the people in the old time and today. In other words, such festival is the component of the tradition as well as the modernization.An even more striking example of it is the American dream. The belief that one can gain the success by his diligence and wisdom hasn't been faded with the time going on. Such a fundamental spirit of America has been lated for hundreds of years in spite of some changes in the detail of it.Without any doubt, America dream is that nation's tradition. While such a assertion can't prevent America dream from composing it's modernization.
     In fact, we sometimes don't distinguish the tradition and modernization clearly in our daily life. Although Chinese still celebrate the Spring Festival, we don't enjoy ourselves in the way our ancestors did.Many people in the current time watch the special performance for the Spring festival on TV. Many examples like this show that we use the modern ways to celebrate traditional festivals naturally.E-mail is almost an indispensable tool for modern people. Meanwhile we usually still use the traditional letter form to write it by e-mail. And we take such a medley of tradition and modernization for granted. Accordingly, we may merge them subconsciously.
     Analysis above shows us that the tradition and modernization is not a determination with only two choices. They are entirely compatible. Tradition is the things that have been shaped for hundreds and even thousands of years which is always the soul of a culture and have benefited generations. As the modernization mostly results from the modern desire, maybe the fundamental reason for their compatibility is that the tradition sometimes is still able to benefit people in the modern time to some degree.
