Issue 13
In accordance with the speaker, the governments of countries in which lesser-known languages are spoken should prevent these languages from becoming extinct. I agree insofar with the speaker as some lesser-known language would serve useful purposes for doing research in these countries. At the same time, however, close scrutiny shows us that it is a normal phenomenon that these languages are being lost.
Admittedly, on one hand, as we all know, language is an uppermost cultural sign for a country and a region, language is representative of the culture and traditional of a country and a region and thus, preservation of a language can contribute to the study of local history and culture. Nowadays, the highly development of the world brings us a more intimate communication in culture and research. And also common sense tells us that a preservation of a language can directly lead to a conservation of a culture, and therefore promote the study and understand of a certain civilization. However, the researchers would find themselves a little difficulty in exploring the culture the language represented if the language fades away. For instance, Greece inspires most of people who love history and archaeology with its glorious scenic and mystical civilization, which attracts more and more people going there for exploration. With an abundant knowledge of Greek can help the person know more about the mystery of the nation through the historical events left by their ancestors.
On the other hand, according with the Theory of Evaluation proposed by Darwin, the survival of the fittest can be applied to the development in all the fields in the world. Therefore, the lost of these lesser-know language is inevitable when considering the popularity of this theory. With the development of today’s society, the trend of globalization leads to the flourishing in telecommunication, in which these lesser-known languages are kinds of barrier and would obstruct the easiness of the communication and even worse might cause unnecessarily conflict and contradiction regardless of the gesture language or verbal language for the difference of culture. Image how you would feel talking with a person knowing nothing about what you are talking about, therefore it is inevitable and natural that these lesser-known languages would be lost.
As for these governments of countries in which these lesser-known languages are spoken are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them, what they should do is to utilize more resources for solving some fundamental problems such as education problems. welfare of the citizens, the development of the scientific technology, and also GDP rather than sparing no efforts to find various ways to preserve such kind of languages, and through which way can the country raise its comprehensive national strength and avoid being eliminated by other ethnic group, and which is also a kind of radical way for the reservation of the less-known language.
In sum, the speaker’s conclusion overstates the importance of these lesser-known languages, at least to some extent. Lesser-known languages can provide a more complete platform for those researchers who are interested in the countries where these languages are popular, however, we should also consider the development of the world and the trend of international fashion. |
