Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? For successful development of a country, should a government focus its budget more on very young children education rather than on universities?
When asked about whether a government should focus its budget more on universities, some people hold the positive attitude, but I view a bit differently, I think that since young children is the beginning stage of the life, and we should devote much more attention to the education of young children to make a solid ground for his future development. To get a full appreciation of the idea, we must turn first to the role that a government fulfils in the very young children education. Since education of children is a kind of public good, which increase the welfare of the whole society, that is, every citizens can benefit from the education, but its cost can't be distributed to everyone, so the government should pay for it. Another equally important consideration is that educational expense can't be born only by the children's parents, especially for those poor families. Because in modern society, all man are created equal, so the children from the poor family should also get the same opportunity to receive education, which will have benefit on their moral development, besides academic success, and help them to grow as well-rounded people. Since the family can't afford the fees of education, it is the duty of the government to focus its budget on subsidizing poor family, also on renewing the teaching facilities of the school. By contrast, if a student can’t afford the tuition of university, he can do some part-time job to increase income to ensure him to finish the education because he is grown to manhood. In addition to these, another aspect is that the education of very young children is mandatory, which should be received by everyone, while the university education is voluntary, which should be chosen by some people who has required academic talent. So the government should subsidize more on the education of children to raise the quality of population, thus to reduce poverty and keep economic and social all-round development. Therefore, it can be concluded that a government should focus its budget more on education of very young children than on universities, thus to give everyone equal opportunity to get education and make for successful development of the country. |
