Issue 40
"Scholarsand researchers should not be concerned with whether their work makes acontribution to the larger society. It is more important that they pursue theirindividual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic those interests mayseem."
1.反对。
4.结论。
In my point of view, the statement that thescientist should pursuit his or her own interest regardless of what it is maybe overly assertive. In fact, I think that although academic freedom is important,in some certain cases, appropriate restriction should be set, but the weight should be determined on acase by case basis.

Admittedly, many scientists and researchersare devoted to their own field in pursuit of their interests, and in thehistory, many historical inventions and discoveries are all created by thedrive of personal interest. For instance, the Danish physicist Niels Bohr whocreate Bohr model which made fundamental contributions to understanding of atomic structure and quantum mechanics was proven to be interested in science inhis early life. When he was a child, he showed great desire to make everythingaround clear, like learning the metalwork technology and doing repairing work. Theinterest accompanied him for his whole life and became the catalysis for hissignificant discoveries, from the biography of Niels Bohr wrote by Nobel PrizeOrganization.

Theseinterests which seem some unusual or idiosyncratic, factually, are alsopossible to contain some reasonable element. I vaguely register a quotation byEinstein that (and I paraphrase):“Development of logic in this world, in asense, comes from the constant shaking off the surprise to new things.”Sometimes the surprise just comes from our ignorance in this certain field.Like the announcement of principle of relativity by
Albert Einstein, the people even themost authoritative scholars all treated it as impossibility at that time. However, the ridiculous hypothesis finally turned out to be the most significantdiscovery in Modern Physics.

Nevertheless,There also exist works driven by the evil purpose or are intended to break thesocial ethic and bring about tempest. Like the clone on humankind, the consequenceof which may endanger the individual genetic identity. These kinds of interestsof science mad men are absolutely not encouraged and necessary restrictionsshould be made to guarantee the safety and welfare of the majority.

As thesaying goes that interest is the best instructor for a learner, we should certainlyrespect
individual interest and letpeople have the freedom to do something they like. Only in this way could therebe innovation and development. But we should also make it clear that the latitudeshould be bounded and anything which departs from the universal value will beforbidden.
自由.理想.生活.

In my point of view(去掉), the statement that the scientist should pursuit his or her own interest regardless of what(no matter how) it is maybe(去掉) overly assertive (it is). In fact, I think that although academic freedom is important,in some certain cases, appropriate restriction should be set, but the weight should be determined on a case by case basis.

Admittedly, many scientists and researchers are (去掉)devoted (themselves to their own field in pursuit of their interests, and in(during) the history, many historical (和前面的history重复,可以去掉)inventions and discoveries are all created by the drive(driving) of personal interest. For instance, the Danish physicist Niels Bohr who create Bohr model which made fundamental contributions to understanding of atomic structure and quantum mechanics was proven to be interested in science in his early life. When he was a child, he showed great desire to make everything around clear, like learning the metalwork technology and doing repairing work. The interest accompanied him for his whole life and became the catalysis for his significant discoveries, from the biography of Niels Bohr wrote by Nobel Prize Organization.

These interests which seem some unusual or idiosyncratic, factually, are also possible to contain some reasonable element.

As the saying goes that interest is the best instructor for a learner, we should certainly respect individual interest and let people have the freedom to do something they like.
