The lecture strongly disagreeswith the points presented in the passage which claims that the memoir of theChevalier lacks credibility. As the professor indicates, the memoir isbelievable as the three reasons below.

The first factor that the professor uses to castdoubt on the passage is that the loan borrowed from （a businessman）others文章好像没有说钱是从一个人那里借的 cannot prove thatChevalier in that time is poor. In fact, it is acceptable that due to his owncommercial activities, Chevalier may take no cash in his pockets, waiting forthe cash returning.

Another point that the lecture holds is that thoughit has been a long time since Chevalier finished the talk with Voltaire,Chevalier is able to write down the details of the conversation by recallingthe content of the talk. To plus, to ensure the accuracy of the memoir,Chevalier referred to piles of journals and notes when writing the memoir.需要强调Chevalier每次都把conversation记在note里，这样他才能write down everydetails

At last, it is compatible with the points in thepassage that the professor demonstrates that it is not the eruption that makeChevalier escape from the prisoner successfully（？这句我没明白什么意思。。。）. The facts that a lot ofpeople who have friends who are more powerful than Chevaliers'这句没说完，那些people没有一个逃出去，要不然仅仅提到有这么一群人对作者的观点一点帮助都没有, and thatafter his running off the prison, the jail restore the construction of theprison show that the bribing theory is not convinced.

Do you agree that the government should support the scientific research even There is no practical use？

Some scientific experiments enlighten us with its profound and far-reaching influence on the society, though they may fail to increase neither our productivity nor economic exponents. As a result, I strongly believe that it is necessity（改成necessary） for the government to support those academic researches, as the reasons I will present as follows.

The first factor coming into my mind is that some researches may do nothing for the industrial practices, on the contrary, they could pave the way for the development of certain objects. Take the social behavior study for an（去掉an）instance, Psychology scientists conducted a series of experiment（加s） about the relations between nerves and behaviors of dogs. Though their outcomes rarely（加are表被动）put into industrial practices, the series of researches are the primary and fundamental milestones of behavior studies. Therefore, to advance the improvement of sociology, government should offer funds to the sociologists.

Adding more credibility to my points of view is that studies on the ancient antiques bring us much knowledge about the primitive people, with the purpose to learn more about our ancestor. In order to complete and refine our knowledge about the past, government should provide adequate money and updated facilities for the Archeologists. Indeed, learning the past has few effects on the social practices, but we cannot deny that it is our curiosity and responsibility to trace back to the past and refine our history. (这点理由如果写成先说有些研究可以提取古代发展中有益的成果为现在服务，再举例考古学，会不会好点？)

In addition, sometimes it may be difficult to figure our (是out吧？) whether a specific scientific research can be beneficial to our industrial practices. Both the process of the discovering of Newton's principles, and the "sun center" theories make appropriate examples indicating that we could not deny the practical use of any scientific experiment, in the term of（改成in terms of）their future influences. Accordingly, government should support those researches even though they are of no practical use in the present.

In conclusion, government should support all the scientific researches, including those which have less practical uses.

The lecture strongly disapproves of the points presented in the passage which claims that it is not possible for companies in United States to produce and promote their ecocertificated products . As the professor indicates, American wood companies ought to manufacture products with ecocertification.

The first factor that the professor uses to cast doubt on the passage is that American consumers do not treat all the advertisements in the same way, but discern the independent ones out of others. In fact, American consumers would take a favorable performance for the advertisements supported by independent organizations.

Another point that the lecture demonstrate is that consumers in America not all the time purchase the commodities with lower price. Instead, when the price gap between two products is low, such as three or five cents, it is possible for the consumers to concentrate more on the value of the products, not the price. As a result, unlike what is presented in the passage, as the lecture shows, American consumers would buy the products with ecocertification, even when they are little higher than others.

At last, the lecture also indicates that considering the foreign companies, American wood companies should produce merchandise with ecocertification. If the American wood companies refute to adapt to the trend of environmental protection, swarms of foreign companies would take over even the whole market of wood products.
