TOPIC: ISSUE130 - "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."

Children are the most vigorous part of the society, and they are the successors of us to exercise their right and knowledge to run the world into the future. Therefore, the level of children's socialization is critical to the development of society, in which socialization refers to the state of getting used to and becoming part of society. Nurturing children with responsibility and awareness of competition and cooperation now is getting more and more crucial to the adult world since they want their posterity to bring about a better society. Personally, however, I believe that how to raise children is on the adult's part but how the world will be on the hand of children is not. Adults should not force their undone desires and ambitions upon their next generation and children are responsible to their own world and culture.

Granted, children nowadays lack suitability, compassion and egregiousness, at least from the view of adults, so they are not good enough to shoulder the responsibility to handle all the issues of the complex society. From all kinds of media, there are many reports about high school students who couldn't bear the pressure from the family and chose to suicide before the college entrance examination, university students who couldn't stand with the ignorance that he or she received in high school but didn't in university and thereby gave up school, and so forth. School bully is also familiar to children. Therefore, it is the fact no one can deny that there are some deficiencies of the children affecting their characteristics and it calls for the attention and solution from the society.

However, what kind of children should be raised to perform the society? Nobody can answer this question exactly. As they are on the way to future, no certain proper criteria should and can be used to determine a child. Though they have a lot of flaws, who do not? At the same time, they boast a great many merits which lend them to the future in a way that no one can predict, such as creativity, initiative, independence and so on. For instance, Charlie Simpson, a seven year old boy in England, raised 120000 pounds for Haiti by bicycling after heard of the earthquake there, in which the little boy showed his compassion and initiative to help others in need and moved people to return to their inner heart. And, the super star Justin Bieber is one of the newly rising stars who creatively utilize the Internet to propagate and showed their gifts in new media and economic environment. Are children with these virtues potentially able to run the society? Nobody can say they are not.

Future more, as global change frequently, it is unfair to use the old standards from the adult view to evaluate a new world from the child view. To what extent may identify a society as ¡°a better society¡±? Hardly can one answer. In China, the two generation in a family may often get into controversy about the issue of divorce. One believes that a long stable marriage is the symbol of happiness and divorce is a shame to the whole family, while the other part thinks that divorce is another way for both to pursue individual happiness. Sequentially, the divorced one is considered as irresponsible and responsible respectively from the perspective of older generation and the new. In addition, the children like to express their feelings boldly and directly, as most of children do in facebook and twitter, while the adults are not used to opening up their hearts to thousands of strangers they even didn¡¯t meet or know before. After all, it is not easy to tell whether a world more traditional is better or a world more open. Consequently, because of different outlook and value, children and adults have different understanding on what culture and world they prefer.

To sum, one generation create a unique world. Adults do not have to be worry about the future of the child and it is also out of their ability. All they should do is providing a free environment to the children and ensure that they develop and improve their ability fully. However the future becomes, children, becoming adults, take the responsibility.
