Shall we put the overall success of a society before the well-being of its individual citizens for the purpose of the flourish of the society?As individuals are part of the society,the performance of either of them will have an impact on the other. Hence, answers to such a sophisticated and complicated social issue should not be oversimplified into a conlusive “yes”or “no”rather should be carefully anylized based on a case-to-case principle.varies on a case-to-case basis.

I agree with the author that under certain circumstances, it is necessary to put the overall scuccess of a society before the well-being of its individual citizens for the resaon that,sometimes,well-being of individuals will impede the development of a society.For instance,before America suffered the economic crisis, the well-being of individual citizens was put before the overall development.Banks and government provided cheep credit for people to buy cars,houses aiming at improve their well-being.But the economic situation of the society had been neglected.As a result, people wanted to buy the same thing which increased demand and caused inflation.The inflation, in turn,led to the umemployment of citizens.Obviously, the well-being of citizens was satisfied at first,but was lost in the end.

Added to that,sometimes,in order to seek the prosperity of a society, we must put its own overall success before the well-being of its citizens, otherwise the adancement of the society will lack behind.A good example is the one-child policy in China.Concerning the huge population and limited recourses available in China, we have to control our ever-growing population so that more people
can be well-fed,educated and sheltered,reducing the burdern of the government.From this perspective,the sacrafice of the betterment of individual citizens not only benefit the society but also will create a better living condition for individuals in a long term.Although they have to compromise their well-being temporarily,they will enjoy a long-term benefit.

Nevertheless,undue priority being given to success of a society as opposed to individuals is not suggestable.To put it in detail,if the loss of individual well-being has outweighed the benefits that individuals can receive afterwards,or even worse,the loss can not be compensated,it is inappropriate to ask individuals to sarafice.For example,if a country seek to a rapidly economic development regardless of the environment protection, the deterieration of environment,such as water,air pollusion,will harm people’s physical condition,which is probably hard to recover.If the citizens’
health can not be garanteed, how could a society to thrive?

According to the prvious anylasis,in order to make a society to thrive,it is not important to discuss whether the priority is to be given to the overall success or the well-being of individuals but whether the government or the rulers are capable of making right justification under different situations.
