130"How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."

The speaker's dual claim are one-sided. The view that how the destiny of society is determined by the socialization of children, on some extent, is over-absolute but reasonable. However, there is no evidence inferring that we cannot learn how to raise children who can help creat a better society.
Consider first the speaker's arbitrarily assertion that the destiny of society depends on how children are socialized. What we called socialization is to provide individuals with skills and habits for participating with their own society. The future society would be made up of today's children and their abitily at that time would have decisive influence on the society.
However, socialization is merely one factor influcing the extent to which an individual will ultimately contribute to a better society, but not the only one. Consider certain prominent leaders who have contributed profoundly to a better society. Mahatma Gandhi's contributions sprang mainly from the courage of his inner convictions and Martin Luther King's contribution was primarily the result of his strong upbringing, which had more to do with his parental influence than the socialization. Moreover, when taking the outstanding science and technology's contribution to the advancement of society into account, the Newcomen steam engine, invented by James Watt, which is fundamental to che changes brought by the industrial revolution, whose contributions impetus the advent of industrialization.
Consider the speaker's next claim that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can creat a better society. But what is a better society? If we define the better society as a world that people have more comfortable life and more rights, which people don't have to worry their food and clothes, besides, they could enjoy themselves by watching films or appreciating an opera and have right of speech, the most recent quarter-century has seen that our life have become more convinence because of the new and high technology and the rights of women have been protected. These all prove that we have known how to teach children to help bring about a better society.
In the final analysis, I agree with the speaker as the solization of children is a key factor for the future of our society. Nevertheless, other factors that equally  or even more important to determine the destiny of society. And also the speaker obviously ignores our progress toward the education of children.

[x1]似乎是what

[x2]To

[x3]In

[x5]the

[x6]convenience

[x7]socialization
