Some people believe that university students should be required to attend classes. Others believe that going to classes should be optional to students. Which point of view do you agree with? Use specific reasons and details to explain your answer.
There are different classes in the university, However, students do not attend every of them. Some of them may be absence because of being lazy, while others may be lack of interest. In my point of view, I think taking classes is a necessity for university students, but students also need the right to choose the course that fit themselves the most.
First of all, students certainly have to take classes. That is why they come to the campus instead of studying in the lab or at home. On the class professors giving lectures on the fields they concentrated in, in which way students can catch a glimpse of the different features of different fields with guidance. At the same time students can feel the personal magnetism of the professors. Some professors are humorous and good at speech, others may be more silence but diligent at academic work. Besides, Students also can get involved in team study when attending the class. There are many classes requiring students to do presentations and assignments in team, in which way students can gain skills in communicating and cooperating.
Nevertheless, I have to confess that there students differs from each other and every of them have their own interest. Recently in the movie Social Network, the founder of Facebook, Zach, is actually a students do not attend most of the class since he have already acquired the knowledge. There may be other people who are as brilliant as Zach, and if we force them to attend all the classes, their intelligence may be deteriorated. In order to avoid that, we should allow them to choose the class they like and need, and offer them the best condition for their research or career. Many universities have already been doing this. In my school, the credit we have to finish before graduate is getting lower and lower, which means we can have more alternatives to choose classes that we a interested in without wondering whether the class is in the curriculum.
To sum it up, I think the policy of university classes should be more flexible. Students are required to attend class, but it is their own choice to decide which classes to have. I think this is especially important in China, where most students are good at taking exams but lacking creativity and the ability to make choice by themselves.
