The message appeared in the health newsletter seems to be true, but there are many parts unreasonable. People having cold have something to do with social ties but not because of the strengthening of immune system in my opinion. And having more social activity will do no good to immune system.

First, the research of the recent study doesn't set a clarify standard to what is called people with many social ties while what is called people with few social ties. If the rules are not settled, the study can't be reasonable enough to convince people of the fact.

Even if the study really reflect the fact that people catching colds less often with more social ties, it doesn't mean catching colds has direct relation to social ties. Considering that, people with many social ties are more likely to be motive in character and willing to participate in sports activities which will better our body and help us avoid catching cold. Besides, people with many social ties will have more ways to get information instead of strengthen the immune system, such as when will the weather change and when should he get an injection to keep us away from illness. There is not clear relation between strengthening immune system with more social ties.

Moreover, having many social ties may mean no explosion to new cold virus. One could have a lot of friends, but all their friends are familiar to him so that there isn't any new cold virus, which means the virus his friends carrying around are familiar with him. That is to say, the cold-suffer temporary immunity to the old virus could keep him away from cold because all the viruses he meets are old for him. On the contrary, one with few social ties would be facing a new virus when he meet somebody new, adding the danger of catching cold. Suppose two persons have the same kind of immune system, the one with more social ties faced with old would not catch a cold, which shows that there are no relations with immune system.

All in all, according to what I said, catching cold or not has something to do with social ties not because of immune system but the character of that person and his social grounds.
