The statement contends that instead of pursuing the immediate fame and recognition, young people should be encouraged to seek realistic and long-term goals. I do not totally agree with the contention for both instant recognition and long-term objective are significant in the growth of the adolescents, and they are not mutually exclusive.

Admittedly, to enact a goal which requires decades of effort amounts to instructing the young people about deciding their direction of present way. Anyway, young students are confronted various choices when they decide which subjects are planned to be learn in university, and which company they are going to have internship. An antedated and realistic goal which seems to predict their outline of future life would help them to make reasonable decisions according to their own preference and the reality. In addition, a prospective goal performs as the sail to encourage them persist in their way for success while lack of such target would dwarf their spirit to continue through hardship and difficulty. Therefore, the realistic goals set in the distant location make guidance to the youngsters in important occasion.

However, besides the seemingly intangible goal, what the young people need is confidence and positive reinforcement from which they would become strong and faithful in their way. And the immediate recognition and reputation would provide such types of placebo and stimulus when they are overwhelmed in uncertainty and suspect. It is natural that the way to head for the ultimate goal successfully is teeming with frustration and difficulty, and even solitude. Yet the rewarding and recognition from the tentative performance in front of the masses or professionals could render some salutary favor in the long-time struggle. For example, by participating in some matches against the peers within the field, young individuals would find their merits if they have defeated other players. And the influx of the endorsement and reputation would motivate the young people in the subsequent studying. Moreover, some attempts and performance in the public would bring more opportunities for the true talents. I have known many of my peers who got the award in international contests have obtained the chance to have education in better institutes.

It is undeniable that there are specific examples that young individuals are conceited and complacent about the immediate fame which impedes their further development. And some earlier approbation and fame would gender the illusion that being successful is far less a simple task. Yet it is not a justifiable reason to hinder all the youth to perform in a open circumstance which would provide reward of effort and stimulating power. An well-educated young person would regard the immediate fame in an appropriate way. By introspecting what they have possessed and what they have lacked, young people would persevere in their further way to reach the long-term and realistic goal.

其实觉得这种行为题目挺不好写的,没什么例子可以举~~

The statement presents a view on the development of young people to which I strongly agree. Being realistic, as the speaker implies, involves a clear recognition of one’s talents and limits and a plan based on that recognition. Therefore a realistic goal is more often than not a long-term one.

After finishing high school, young people ordinarily have to choose their direction of further education. By encouraging young people to pursue immediate recognition, we push them to follow the trend rather than discovering their true and unique talents. Various fortune stories today make it seem so easy to gain success sticking to the trend, attracting people who seek fast success. Young people may receive some kind of quick success – and recognition from society - if they simply follow the trend, but this may merely be selling their greater prospect at a cheap price. Instead of this, when young people are being persuaded to engage in popular areas like IT or MBA courses, they should be advised to think more carefully where their real talent lies, in case eagerness for fast success ruins the opportunity for them to develop their true genius.

Having chosen a field that suits his talent, a young man still can be presented the same choice: to work for long-term goal that seems distant to him, or pursue fast fame where it is, rumor has it, most likely to find some? For instance, in scientific researches, a young researcher may be allured to engage in the hot-spot topics where fame and recognition seems closest. This projected fast success, however, need to be reassured by deliberating the risk of failure for the reason of inadequate preparation, knowledge, etc. If their teachers encourage them to seek fast success, we can envision how young researchers would more eagerly rush to these topics. This is just not what teachers, or any elder people, should do.

To make my view less arbitrary, there are of course times when immediate fame is indeed close at hand and they are commensurate to the young people’s talent and capability. Under such circumstances, there’s no denying that they should grasp the opportunity, so long as they have carefully thought of the consequences. Should their endeavor for higher goals be worn off by the fame following it? Should they become overly occupied by the success as a young man? If they have demonstrated their capability of withstanding the test of fame, then we ought to encourage them, for bravery and swiftness are also crucial virtues for one’s ultimate success.

In the final analysis, pursuit of immediate fame and recognition can often lead to sacrifice of youngsters’ more valuable potentials. They should have courage to catch the opportunity open to them, but only when the results of doing so have been carefully weighed. As Socrates said two thousand years ago, a life not reflected upon is not worth living. And life that floated freely with the trend without a thoroughly deliberated plan is one not reflected on.

我觉得这篇文章写得很好。针对一个类型的年轻人(学术型学生)说得很透彻,用词也很丰富。

The statement presents a view on the development of young people to which I strongly agree. Being realistic, as the speaker implies, involves a clear recognition of one’s talents and limits and a plan based on that recognition(先定义什么是realistic). Therefore a realistic goal is more often than not a long-term one.

After finishing high school, young people ordinarily have to choose their direction of further education. By encouraging young people to pursue immediate recognition, we push them to follow the trend(我觉得这里的trend是不是有点太笼统了?要不要解释下是哪种trend)rather than discovering their true and unique talents. Various fortune stories today make it seem so easy to gain success sticking to the trend, attracting people who seek fast success. Young people may receive some kind of quick success – and recognition from society - if they simply follow the trend, but this may merely be selling their greater prospect at a cheap price(感觉这里的cheap price是突然冒出来的,是否需要具体解释下呢).

(这一段讲的是短期fame的不好的effect,不过我觉得为了对应下一段可以突出在没有考虑后果的情况下的选择带来的不好之处。)

To make my view less arbitrary, there are of course times when immediate fame is indeed close at hand and they are commensurate to the young people’s talent and capability. Under such circumstances, there’s no denying that they should grasp the opportunity, so long as they have carefully thought of the consequences. If they have demonstrated their capability of withstanding the test of fame, then we ought to encourage them, for bravery and swiftness are also crucial virtues for one’s ultimate success.(让步段,在什么条件下可以选择immediate fame)

In the final analysis, pursuit of immediate fame and recognition can often lead to sacrifice of youngsters’ more valuable potentials(这一层意思上文没有表现出来). They should have courage to catch the opportunity open to them, but only when the results of doing so have been carefully weighed. As Socrates said two thousand years ago, a life not reflected upon is not worth living. And life that floated freely with the trend without a thoroughly deliberated plan is one not reflected on.

刚知道需要重考GRE,报了1月份的名,希望能找到同伴一起复习,改作文。看到这个帖子,就先写了个Issue,第一次练习,用的新GRE倒计时作文练习工具。希望能跟大家多交流。

Based on my personal experience and knowledge,long-term, realistic goal is an orientation in our lives which direct us to move forward. However, immediate fame and recognition is critical for young people to attain success and happiness as well. Therefore, I cannot agree with the statement above.

The life is a journey and it is reasonable the orientation is critical for the young people to move on. It is fantastic that if a young person can set a long-term goal which is feasible and practical. It is like a light ahead, and you will not be lost and waste time on the detour. For example, I have a very good college friend, she set up her long-term goal when she entered the college as a freshman which is to be a faculty in a university in the future. This goal directed her study and research in the following en years as a undergraduate student and a graduate student. She spent enormous time in the library and applied to join in professor's project teem to accumulate research experience when she was only an sophomore. She applied PhD when other students were busy with hunting a job. Her papers got published in famous journals and she gained a faculty in the Beijing Forest University after she graduated from Peking University with a PhD degree. I am certain that, the long-term goal she made ten years before directed her conduction and selection. When young people set a long term and realistic goal, they will not be confused in front of abundant choices and lures and consequently be lost. Additionally, when a long-term goal can be narrowed down sub-objectives in each session and then, you will get to know what need to do in each step. For example, my long term goal is to be a Mathematics teacher, and then, and then I can clearly know what is necessary to find a position as a mathematics teacher in K-12 schools. First, I need a certificate. Second, I need internship experience as a teacher as much as possible. Based on these two, I will have a clue in my college study regarding course selection and internship application.

Therefore, I agree that, young people should be encouraged to pursue long-term goals which will is essential for young people to find out the way to move on and avoid detour.

Nevertheless that I agree the long-term feasible goal is critical for young people, standing on my perspective, immediate fame and recognition is worthing pursuing and endeavor as well. It is compelling that long-term goal is significant in our life to guide us, however, it is difficult to set a long-term realistic goal when we are young. As a youth, we lack sufficient experience and information to decide what we really want to do in the future very clearly. The world is changeable and people's thought, favors, interest changes in different period of the life as well. So, for most young people, it is not very necessary for them to set a long-term goal when they are only a high school student or college student. It happens to many people that, many years later, they found what they are pursuing is not the real thing they are passionate. Oppositely, I do encourage young people who cannot clarify their real interest and future career path to try different things and pursue immediate fame and recognition because from which, they can gain a lot pertaining to two aspects. First, pursuing immediate recognition can help student identify if they are interested in this field. For example, the founder of the biggest social networking site facebook, Mark Zarkburger, when he began to build the facebook website, he didn't have a blue picture to found a valuable company. He just intended to fulfill some idea and to get some recognition from friends and students in Harvard. This immediate recognition drove him to be an entrepreneur and create a legend in the business. Therefore, immediate fame and recognition deserve trying since it is an opportunity for young people to learn a new area and to figure out their passion and interest.

Secondly, immediate fame and recognition can provide young people motivation and confidence to face up confusion and challenges in the journey of life. Take an example with my own experience. When I was in the college, I participated in several business creativity competition. This competition last only two months but the reward I gained have support me spiritually for a long time. Whenever I encounter difficulties and hardship, I recalled this sort of experience and I told myself that, I am capable to make it. The fame and recognition from the short-term goal gives us unexpected encouragement and motivation in some sense.

The conclusion drawn from the reasons listed above, I don't support the statement that young people should be encouraged to pursue long-term realistic goals rather than seek immediate fame and recognition. For a few of lucky young people who successfully find their goals and interest at a young age, that is perfect because this long-term goal will provides them clear direction and guidance. However, for most young people whose long-term goal and interests are not for sure at a young age, immediate fame and recognition is significant to help them find a way and the joy of the life.
