The Centre for Biomaterial Development in Teltow (belongs to Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht Centre for Materials and Coastal Research) invites applications of highly motivated chemists for a PhD Position in the field of ‘multicomponent bio-molecule patterning of shape-memory polymers’.
The work will be focused on the preparation and comprehensive characterization of multicomponent bio-molecule patterned 3-D structured shape-memory polymer surfaces via micro- and/or nano patterning techniques (e.g. printing or soft lithography related approaches). Furthermore, novel micro-mechanical approaches for shape-memory functionalization and quantification of the bio-molecule patterned polymer surfaces should be developed. The prepared materials will be analysed with respect to their composition, patterning structure, thermal and mechanical properties, morphology, surface topography and bio-functionality. .
The position is initially limited to 3 years.
As successful applicant, you should have strong background in both polymer chemistry and polymer physics as well as in chemical modification of polymer surfaces e.g. by wet chemical approaches or plasma-treatment and the corresponding surface characterization techniques with a Diploma or Master in Chemistry or Physics with a focus on Polymer Sciences or likewise.
Applicants with a strong interest in translational research are especially welcome. You have a highly degree of self-motivation, enthusiasm, good communication (including speaking English fluently) and soft skills as well as a target oriented working profile. You are interested in building new competencies and to participate in sharing these in internal and external co-operations. You have the ambition to work in an interdisciplinary team with chemists, physicists and scientists of other disciplines in the field of Biomaterial Research in an international work environment offered at the chair and the institute.
