38) It is primarily through our identification with social groups that we define ourselves.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

TS
Generally speaking, a people could participate in more than one social group in his life, all of which is closely relative to his character. Without doubt, identification with social group evolved is always a convenient way for people to locate themselves. Also, sometimes people tend to define themselves before joining in new social groups. In fact, both the self-understanding and group identification contribute a lot to the self-definition.

Ts1
For the social group that we have already joined in, they more or less represent part of our personality, thus could assist to locate ourselves.

Ts2
On the contrary, the people need to realize themselves ahead of the identification with social group if the groups are new to them and they are considering whether to participate or not.

Ts3
Above all, the statement should not separate the social identification with the self-understanding and try to analyze their causation or sequence. Instead, they are supposed to promote and intertwine with each other.

people是复数

如果要说self identification 或许可以讲一下innate characterisitcs such as gender, sexual orientation, age等等

38) It is primarily through our identification with social groups that we define ourselves.

Man is social by nature. I agree with the speaker in that it points out the mark that society imprints on a person. Nevertheless, the statement does not hold true all the time in two respects. On the one hand, it overlooks the wealth and complexity of individuals. On the other hand, evidences are there that many great men have broken their stereotypes to make contributions to the human civilization.

I tend to agree with the statement because it is owing to roles we play in social groups that help us form our identification.

However, personal identities never dissolve in a society. Each member of it maintains his individuality which in turn shapes the society as a whole.

In a lot of cases, it is the breakthrough of social identifications that leads one to succeed.

However, personal identities never dissolve in a society

38) It is primarily through our identification with social groups that we define ourselves.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

TS
It commonly believes that one of the best ways to tell others “who am I” or “who are you” is by means of identifying the social group that the individual belongs to. The above argument works quite well while it is applied to define ourselves briefly. On the other hand, the identification of social group fails to define ourselves comprehensively. Three areas – meeting with people that we do not know, participating in an interview and dating with others – will be discussed and will be used to explain the above reasoning.

Ts1
By indicating the social groups that we are belonging to, we define ourselves while meeting with people that we do not know.

Ts2
However, the identification of social group is not a qualified variable to define ourselves comprehensively; particularly, while it comes to the area of participating in an interview, we always rely on other variables to construct a comprehensive picture of ourselves to others (the interviewers).

Ts3
Furthermore, while it is necessary to define and clarify the difference between ourselves and others, such as attending a dating with others, variables including but not limited to our own perspective of future life and expectation of potential spouse – rather than telling others which social group we are belonging to – are used to portray the feature of ourselves.
