Structural Eng and Mechanics 2 RA Positions at UAH

Two (2) PhD Research Assistant (RA) positions are available at University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) in the areas of Structural Engineering and Infrastructural Materials. Eligible candidates are expected to have background in any or multiple of the following fields: structural engineering and mechanics; structural control (including system identification and health monitoring); solid mechanics and constitutive modeling; building physics and energy modeling. Prior research experiences and publications are a plus, but not required. Appointments will start Summer/Fall of 2017, or later until the positions are filled.  

Selected candidates will work in the Structural Hazard Mitigation & Intelligent Materials (SHM&IM) group (http://shm-im.uah.edu) on sustainable and energy-efficient structures. SHM&IM was established in 2014 with the overarching mission of advocating the holistic design and sustainable construction of buildings and other built environments. Several interdisciplinary research thrusts are pursued to study the co-impacts of architectural forms, building materials, and energy subsystems on buildings’ structural resilience and energy efficiency. The research activities are currently funded by US National Science Foundation (NSF), US Department of Energy (DOE), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT).

Qualifications
Applicants should have a B.S. degree in (not limited to) Civil and Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science or related fields.  General admission requirements (TOEFL, GRE, GPA, etc.) please refer to

Assistantship Benefits
Competitive stipend, full tuition waiver, and healthcare will be provided to students obtaining RA/TA positions. Room & board expenses will be covered for research travels (conferences, off-campus research, data collections etc.).
