Summary The Department of civil andbuilding engineering at the University of Sherbrooke (UdeS) is look for highlymotivated PhD candidates to join our structural engineering research group. Ourresearch focuses on metallic structures, structural stability, andcomputational mechanics. Successful candidates will work on aluminumstructures. The project aims to study the buckling behavior of aluminumcircular hollow sections, focusing on various loading conditions, sectiondimensions, and alloy types. This study is crucial for investigatingthe resistance and stability behavior of aluminum structural components underdifferent loading situations such as compression, bending, torsion, and shear.By exploring a range of buckling modes and conditions, the project seeks todevelop comprehensive design guidelines and optimization strategies. Thesefindings will enhance the structural application of aluminum and contributesignificantly to the development of sustainable infrastructure, highlightingthe growing importance of aluminum in modern engineering solutions. Theposition requires a proactive researcher with a well-established publicationrecord. The preferred candidate should demonstrate evidence of the followings: Required skills: ▪ Master's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a relatedfield. ▪ Proficiency in numerical analysis techniques and finite elementanalysis. ▪ Strong programming skills in languages like MATLAB, Python, VBA, orsimilar. ▪ Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. ▪ Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English or French. ▪ The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a researchteam. Preferred Skills: ▪ Experience in conducting experimental programs related to structuralengineering. ▪ Experience in structural analysis of aluminum. ▪ Experiencein working with machine learning, particularly deep learning, and neuralnetworks. Howto Apply Interested applicants are invited to submit their application to Prof.Li (https://www.usherbrooke.ca/recherche/fr/specialistes/details/liya.li) by email (liya.li@usherbrooke.ca). The application files shouldinclude: 1. One-page motivation letter outlining your researchareas and future research plans 2. A comprehensive CV with a minimum of threereferences 3. Copies of all academic transcripts and degrees 4. Master's thesis or a summary of previous research(3-5 pages). 5.
