most of our effort on writng is on independent writing. We should not forget another form of writing--integrated writing, which requires an objective summary on the lecture.  I have just found one person dis that exercise. It seems integrated writing is not an easy job.

I propose to do more work on this form of writing. Any interested one can look at the work done previously.

Altruism is a type of behavior in which an animal sacrifices its own interest for that of another animal or group of animals. Altruism is the opposite of selfishness; individuals performing altruistic acts gain nothing for themselves.
Examples of altruism abound, both among humans and among other mammals. Unselfish acts among humans range from the sharing of food with strangers to the donation of body organs to family members, and even to strangers. Such acts are altruistic in that they benefit another, yet provide little reward to the one performing the act.
In fact, many species of animals appear willing to sacrifice food, or even their life, to assist other members of their group. The meerkat, which is a mammal that dwells in burrows in grassland areas of Africa, is often cited as an example. In groups of meerkats, an individual acts as a sentinel, standing guard and looking out for predators while the others hunt for food or eat food they have obtained. If the sentinel meerkat sees a predator such as a hawk approaching the group, it gives an alarm cry alerting the other meerkats to run and seek shelter. By standing guard, the sentinel meerkat gains nothing—it goes without food while the others eat, and it places itself in grave danger. After it issues an alarm it has to flee alone, which might make it more at risk to a predator, since animals in groups are often able to work together to fend off a predator. So the altruistic sentinel behavior helps ensure the survival of other members of the meerkat’s group.

You know, often in science, new findings force us to re-examine earlier beliefs and assumptions. And a recent study of meerkats is having exactly this effect. The study examined the meerkat’s behavior quite closely, much more closely than had ever been done before. And some interesting things were found...like about eating habits...it showed that typically meerkats eat before they stand guard -- so the ones standing guard had a full stomach! And the study also found that since the sentinel is the first to see a predator coming, it’s the most likely to escape...because it often stands guard near a burrow, so it can run immediately into the burrow after giving the alarm. The other meerkats, the ones scattered about looking for food, are actually in greater danger.
And in fact, other studies have suggested that when an animal creates an alarm, the alarm call might cause the other group members either to gather together or else to move about very quickly, behaviors that might actually draw the predator’s attention away from the caller, increasing that animal’s own chances of survival.
And what about people--what about some human acts that might be considered altruistic? Let’s take an extreme case, uh, suppose a person donates a kidney to a relative, or even to a complete stranger. A selfless act, right? But ...doesn’t the donor receive appreciation and approval from the stranger and from society? Doesn’t the donor gain an increased sense of self worth? Couldn’t such non-material rewards be considered very valuable to some people?

最近参加了新东方的托福强化班，觉得史禺老师讲的作文木板挺好的，拿来给大家分享。
模板是这样的：一篇作文一般情况下分三部分，开头，中间和结尾。开头又分三部分：hook， paragraph, thesis. hook的意思是引入，有四种方法：history, definition, quotation, question.就是通过写与话题有关的历史，定义，引用名人名言，或者发问的方式引入。然后是审定题目，是什么话题，把它在文句中的内容稍加修改。最后说明自己的观点。
中间主要是support point 1,2,3。每点说明一个问题，说清楚，要条理清晰。
最后一段的开头要有TW：transitional words.即过度词，然后总结。总结时把文中的重要观点换个词重述一遍，不要提出新的观点，但是可以是预测和号召。

I  met a topic that ask name a world leader. Though I am quite interested in historic figures, I am not a historian. I feel difficult in handling with this kind of writting because I do not remember many historic facts.

What do you think?

Marriage is two persons one male and one female to make a family. I strongly agree to marry one who is similar to me in nature and hobbies. Similarity brings many advantages. The reasons are as follows.

  First of all, when you live together with your spouse, you hope to communicate easily. A person similar to you, no doubt, is more convenient to talk with. Because two persons are similar, when you have one feeling, your marriage partner may also have the similar feeling, which greatly reduces debates or disagreement. When you feel something important, you spouse may also think so. If you think educating children is important and are willing to take responsibility, your wife or husband most likely agree with you. Your family life will be compatible and in harmony. Harmony is important for a family.

  Second of all, I feel family is a harbor for an individual. After working all day, what a person needs is to have a rest. He/she probably does not want to argue with his/her beloved one about the topic he/she never experienced. He does not need argument. He does not need to teach either, because being taught is unbearable.

    Last but not the least, family life provides the similar couple more time together to deal their same problems. They can share their happiness. Once one has problem, the similar experience by another person can offer efficient help to another. Even if they meet the new problem, they can work together to figure it out, because we are in the same boat.  Similar people living together just provides so many advantages like share same fate, same problem in life. Having a similar partner behind you, you will never feel alone.

  Though learning from a partner who has a different background and different nature you may gain some new knowledge or experience, you may feel that is too hard. Your time is precious and you just have a lot to learn or to do. It is easy to work and live with a person who is similar to you in your home.

Almost all the jobs nowadays in the society could be simply divided into two types according to their working methods: works with hands and works with heads. There is a tremendous require on both of them, so there is not an apparent answer of which is better. However, if I am going to design or begin my career, I really prefer to those jobs with heads.

Among various reasons to support my opinion, the most convincing is that jobs with heads have the advantage on the salary. It is universally known that most of people working with heads have received the education in university which means a deeper and theoretical knowledge. These advanced knowledge in the university enables graduates from universities could contribute more to the company and lead to a higher position. For instance, in a construction company, the engineers who draw drafts and design the buildings could earn much more than the workers who build the construction.

Moreover, the problem of safety should be considered in the decision. Many of stuffs workings with hands have to approach to numerous dangerous machines that perhaps hurt their bodies even kill them sometimes accidentally. On the other hand, engineers, teachers and managers who always sit in the office writing, thinking and communicating with others have no danger to lives. Although they could catch some chronic illness as of long time of sitting and watching the screen sometimes, it could also happen to the workers with hands according to the approach to toxic material.

Finally, jobs that require your thought and invention are much more creative and attractive. There is a plenty of logical thinkings, analyze for this sort of the smart and creative workers to challenge. Once you have determination, panssion and confidence, you could contribute to the design to a building, a car or a machine that may be every children's dreams in their childhood.

Obviously, all the reasons I mentioned above point to my preference to the works with head. But we can not ignore some advantages and importance of works with hands. Both of them are irreplaceable to the well operation of the whole society.
