In this argument, the author claims that health experts should no longer recommend that people avoid the greasy food. To support this claim, the author cites the fact the number of teenagers who sought medical help for the skin problem has risen over the past ten years though the health experts have advised teenagers to avoid eating greasy foods. Also, the author cites a study which compares the differences of skin problem between a group of teenagers who avoid eating greasy food and other group of teenagers who eating them as usual. At the first glance, the claim might be somehow reasonable, but further consideration reveals it contains several logical flows and is not well supported as it stands.
To begin with, the mere fact that the numbers of teenagers who sought medical help for skin problem raised though the health experts advised them not to eat greasy food is unsubstantial. Perhaps, the teenagers might not take the advice from health experts that they should not eating greasy foods. Or, perhaps the teenagers not have access to the advices made by the health experts. Without ruling all these possibilities, the author cannot convince me that the advice is useless to solve the teenagers’ skin problems.
Secondly, the author cites a study which indicates that there is no relationship between eating greasy foods and having skin problems, however, the author overlooks other possibility which might indicates the relationship does exist. For example, the study shows the teenagers who avoided greasy foods for a mouth do have the similar skin problems like those who eating greasy foods as usual, however, the study ignores that the teenagers who avoid the greasy foods for more than a mouth might do not have skin problems or have less .without ruling out the possibility, the author cannot come up with the conclusion.
Finally, even assuming that eating greasy foods do not result in the skin problems, the author claims too hastily that health experts should no longer recommend that people avoid the greasy foods. Perhaps the greasy foods might cause other health problems like heart-attack. Or, perhaps the greasy foods might be the reason for the obesity. Without ruling out these alternative possibilities, the author cannot convince me that we need not to avoid greasy foods.
To sum up, the author’s conclusion that the health experts should not recommend that people avoid greasy food is not well supported as it stands.
