The simpler， the better? I could not agree more. Retrospect to the whole history course, whether technology or art, I find that people are actually looking ways to abstract and simplifying everything. But "simple things" is not that simple.

In aesthetic aspect, people have long been trying to create simplified artistic images with lines and colors which are more difficult than that of enriched. The first great artist that comes to mind would be Mondrian, the representative figure for Abstractionism. His famous red, blue and yellow color square-made picture has attracted countless people, including many who are not able to lucidly appreciate his works due to the obscuration of his works. These pictures which contain no concrete images and figures are so attractive for they are like ambiguous whisperings and intangible music in the air. Also, look at so many fancy products from Apple Company. As beautiful as naturally born, Ipods and Macbooks are so concise and enchanting from the appearance. Such an example of industrial design is simple but hard for other companies to imitate for the spirit hidden inside is enriched.

Turn to technology and science area, the effort to make every invention and idea as clear and simple as possible is more distinct. Usually, more complicated installation mean high change of malfunction and more cost. Numerous ingenious inventions are actually nothing but simplifying things from complex forms. A worth mentioned instance is how empty boxes are picked out from that containing soaps on the assembly line. That happened in a soap factory when the manager was so angry about high rate of empty boxes in finished products. The factory was planning to import an infrared detector system as a part of the assembly line. Finally, a worker came out with a solution--an electrical fan! It is much cheaper but the same reliable as blowing off empty boxes from assembly line.

Generally speaking, the magic power of simple things is its outstanding artistic value and excellent mechanic function. Concise artistic work is more like a container; itself is giving out attractive aesthetic value and at the same time, people can fill in their own feeling and thoughts. As people's values vary, the container remains popular since it varies with what it contains. In addition, simplifying things enables people to view complex problems from a broader angle, thus easily find hidden rules and regulation behind disorderly and confused appearance. As soon as people abstract the rules out, things become easier, though the whole abstraction process is difficult. Indeed, universal formulas are not easy to be generalized, but once found out, difficult problems become nothing but formula application procedure which be mastered by new learners.

In conclusion, simplifying problems is not as difficult as its outcomes seem to be. But last value can be enjoyed after efforts. To solve a problem, efficiency overwhelms. In this case, complicated solution might be working as well, however, the easier the better.
