ISSUE25 - "Anyone can make things bigger and more complex. What requires real effort and courage is to move in the opposite direction-in other words, to make things as simple as possible."

Weather making things simple needs real effort and courage or not is a rather complex issue that should be taken into consideration based on case-by-case study according to specific situations, and whether anyone can make things bigger and more complex is open to doubt.

In some cases, the ability to make things bigger and more complex requires a good command of the knowledge in the specific field you are involved in. Recently, with the further modernization and industrialization, our world is becoming a place characterized by an increasing complexity and diversity. In academic field, distinct subjects are internally connected, a good command of knowledge that is limited in a single field is far from enough. For instance, in pharmaceutical when scientists are developing a new kind of
medicine, they must not only take into account whether the medicine is efficient in the disease it is concentrated on but also consideration concerning the side-effects the medicine will bring about to the patients. What is more, in biochemistry, when the scientists are doing research on clone, they must be supervised by the moral of the public. Thus, sometimes it is necessary to make things bigger and more complex. In fact, the opinion of a person who is not well educated is sometimes too simple and limited to one aspect, however, the opinion of a well educated person is more complex.

However, in many other aspects, making things simple requires real effort and courage. A person can never make things simple but effective without an insightful grasp of the essence of the question. In our everyday life, although new technologies, such as the Internet, automobiles, mobilphone and so forth, indeed have brought about countless convenience to people. We can know whatever is going on in every country just in front of our computer, what we need do is merely a single click of the our mouse. We can get in touch with our friends whenever and wherever. People's quality of life seems to be greatly enhanced by the new technology, however, it is not the case. Actually, computers indeed have taken the place of human labor in calculating repeated problems, which would otherwise take a lot of time and efforts for ourselves to solve, yet human beings seem to be much busier than before. Automobile indeed have made the pace of people's life much quicker, which would save us a considerably affluent time to take exercises, however our lifestyles are becoming ever more unhealthy. Why? The crux lies in that we have not yet really understood the purpose of the objective of technology. The original goal of technology is actually to make people's life more simple in order for people to concentrate on more significant things, such as physical health, interpersonal relationship, and the cultivation of our mind. If we can never find out the essence of technological development, our lives will become increasing complicated.

In the politics realm, bureaucracy has long been a serious social problem that haven't been solved yet, which can cause several negative effects. For one thing, as for its deficiency, some officers can be omitted in the decision making prosess, which is a huge waste of government funds that can be better used in adressing serious social problems such as health care, public facilities and so on. For another, several problems concerned with moral such as nepotism, corruption, and political infighting would occur, which will have a detreimental effects on a societal level. It is high time for the government officers and policy makers to grasp the essence of effective politics, whose aim is to protect the interest of the public. As a result, we should spare no effort to make our political system as simple and effective as possible. Otherwise, the instability of the society will enhance and the region will eventually fail.

To sum up, it indeed requires real effort and courage to make things simple in many aspects such as in the field of technology and politics, however, in other aspects, making things complex and comprehensive is in need of a sophisticated mind.
