TOPIC: ISSUE17 - "There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws."
Laws are made by people, so there are certainly chances that parts of the lows are unjust. What if we face the unjust parts of laws, what will we do? It is so complex that no one can give the proper answer. In spite of this, I still firmly agree with the statement that every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws, which seems to be too extreme.
Admittedly, to obey all laws sounds more reasonable to everyone, after all, this is what we have done in the past, and doing now, maybe will do in the future.
Something which can survive must have its reason. Most of the time, laws are made to rule the action of people. So in order to reach this purpose, there are numerous machines to make sure the laws are proceeding correctly, and these are usually much more powerful than any individual. Then the best way to adjust with the society is to obey the basic rules of it, laws. And there are less conflict between the rulers and people, the society will be in harmony.
To be honest again, not only are there few choices for us when facing laws, but there is no real justice in the real world as well. However, to pursuit for justice is everyone's right-with-born. Just like freedom, people never abandon the hope of reach the justice. There are once many lines of laws in American history which are unjust to Black Americans. Then comes one famous person saying no to the unjust laws who at last successful change the content of the laws as well as people's mind, with the name Martin Luther King. The man not only guard the right of African Americans, but the right of disobey and resist unjust laws.
Moreover, saying no to unjust laws is also a responsibility to any individual which would bring longer and more firm accordance to the society. In the first place, the unjust parts of laws cannot change by themselves, which means there must be someone to point out the bad parts. However, to obey without even thinking will make the laws customs for a society. And once this is reached, the day the conflict about
In sum, whatever for one's own right, or to take the responsibility, every individual should obey just laws and try his/her best to disobey and resist unjust laws. |
